The beginnings…
• Tornadoes are normally spawned from severe thunderstorms called a supercell.
• Supercells cause warm air and cold air to meet, they then move respectively depending on their temperatures.
• The warm air from above starts swirling, due to the coriolis effect.
• FUN FACT!• The sky will turn a very dark green before the
tornado begins its destruction. • Tornados on average last only a few minutes
and travel between 4-5 miles.
Fun Fact!•The EF scale used to determine how deadly, costly, damaging tornados are is used all over the world!•Two of the highest concentration of tornadoes outside the U.S is in Argentina and Bangladesh
• Tornados form mostly in Bangladesh and the US.
• They from because of the position upon the Earth• Relative Latitude and Longitude • Between about 30˚-50˚ north or south
• The landscape/terrain • Weather Conditions
Why do tornados form where they do?
Weather Conditions
• FUN FACT!• Tornados happen on every continent on the
planet except Antarctica. • England has the same amount of tornados
as the US comparative to its land mass.
• Most storms are produced in the spring and summer times of the year.
• Thunderstorms are an essential part of creating a tornado.
Comparing
Tri-State Tornado• Traveled through
Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.
• Single deadliest US tornado, killing 695 people.
• Was the fastest tornado on Earth at 73 mph.
• Ranks 3 in the scale of worlds worst tornados.
Daulatpur-Saturia• Costliest and most
deadly tornado in Bangladesh on record.
• Daulatpur-Saturia holds the record for most persons killed at roughly 1,300 people.
• Ranks first in worlds tornados.
Comparing Cont…
Tri-State Tornado• Was part of a tornado
outbreak. • Was said to have
lasted 3.5 hours while traveling 234 miles (377 km)
• Estimated cost of damages including inflation rates is $1.4 billion.
Daulatpur-Saturia• Storm estimated to be
1 mile long with a path of destruction estimated to be about 50 miles long.
• Bangladesh Observer stated that "The devastation was so complete, that barring some skeletons of trees, there were no signs of standing infrastructures"
Fun Fact•Every 3 out of 4 tornados occur in the US. •Some tornados are silent. •The color of the tornado almost always matches the ground.
