Elegy of Autumn

Comment from Grand Prize winner, Dina Bova (Israel)

"It is a melody of autumn — a story about elderly couple living together all Life, each in his personal world, each with his own secrets. It's also a story about immigrants living in a tiny apartment, still keeping their old festive clothes and other memorable things from the previous life. It's a story of people who live modest life, but with dignity. It's a story that has both — sadness and smile... In this artwork the spheres serve as metaphors for dissociation from the outside world and even from each other. This work is one of my favorites and very important to me. Its story touches me deeply. So I'm very happy that it was recognized in such a respected competition.“

Judge's comment on Grand Prize winner

"Our Judges loved this image. It tells so many stories. It is at once traditional and respecting of the elders set in a classic living room, yet whimsical with the reference to space travel. It points to our future while honoring our past. Indeed deserving of the Grand Prize."(Chris Rainier)

Dina Bova is a world-renowned avant-garde artist, seeking new ways in art photography. She was born in Moscow at 1977 and came to Israel with her parents when she was 13 years old. Since then, Israel is her home. She started from classic photography during her travels around the world in 2007. In her early photographs she tried to “seize the moment” in someone’s life and document the events in the surrounding world. But, at some point she felt constrained by classic photography and turned her camera from the outside world to the inner world. She started creating her own world of subjective reality with her camera and computer. Today, her artworks are far from classic photography and remind paintings of Renaissance period and at the same time neo-surrealism.Dina participates in exhibitions and international photography competitions. To date, close to 100 of her works were awarded over 400 prizes in 26 countries. Her works have gained an appreciation and awards in prestigious contests worldwide, such as: - Grand-Prix in “Nikon International Photo Contest 2013” - out of 100000 entries from 153 countries, Japan - Certificate of achievement 2013 - granted by the Israeli minister of culture - Grand-Prix in “Professional Women Photographers 2012”, New-York - Grand-Prix in "Donkey-Art Prize 2011" - contemporary art competition, Italy - Hasselblad Masters 2011 - finalist, Denmark - Julia Margaret Cameron award 2011 – 1st place in Fine-art nude category, UK - PX3 - Prix de la Photographie 2011 (France) – Gold medal, Paris
