How to use Counterpoint in arranging

How Counterpoint can be used to enhance a Melody.

Counterpoint is an additional Melody happening at the same time as the main Melody.

The Counterpoint Melody has to fit Harmonically with the main melody, but will often differ rhythmically and form a Melody in isolation.

1. Find the Melody of your arrangement2. In an alternative instrument begin to add a

harmony line3. Use slightly different rhythms and tied notes

to create a different feel4. If you wish too you could create an entirely

new sounding accompanying melody as long as it Harmonically refers to the original melody
