Amajorresearchfocusofmyresearchisexamininghowanthropogenicimpactssuchasclimatechange,land-usechange,andcombustionoffossilfuelsareimpactingthecarboncycle,particularlythemovementofcarbonbetweenreservoirs.Currentresearchprimarilyexaminescontrolsonthe

export,processingandfateoforganicmatterattheland-oceaninterfacewithaspecificfocusongloballysignificantvulnerableorganiccarbonpools.

Commonlyusedtechniquesincludespectrophotometricanalyses,elementalandbiochemicalcompositionsandstableandradioisotopestocharacterize

organicmattersources,degradationhistoriesandtodelineateorganicmatterdynamicsinarangeofenvironmentsfromsoilsandglaciersthroughrivers

andestuariesandintotheocean.

Anup-to-dateassessmentoffluxesofwater,carbonandnutrientsfrom

coastalrainforestmarginwatershedstoreceivingmarine

environments.Apredictionofhowclimateimpactswillalterthese

fluxesandthefateoforganicmatter(i.e.howsourcewillchange)intothe

future.

IworkfortheUSGSGeologicalSurveyLandCarbonprojectinDenver,Colorado.TheinlandwatersteamrecentlycompletedaregionalassessmentofaquaticCfluxesinSoutheasternAK,andtheestimatetotaled76.7gm2yr-1

(95%CI,55.7,110.2).CoastalcarbonexportandriverCO2emissionsrepresentedthemajorityoftheflux.Wewouldliketohavebetterdatasetsof

pCO2andgastransfervelocitiestoreducetheuncertaintyinriverCO2emissionestimates.WewouldalsolikeabetterrepresentationoftotalCconcentrationsinriversandimprovedsurfacewatermapsforloworderstreams.Withtheseimproveddatasets,wemightbeabletogetabettersenseofthespatialandtemporalvariabilityofterrestrialCloadingto

streams.
