Film Screening: The Landfillharmonic
Monday, April 22 | 7:00—8:30 PM This award-winning documentary
(2015) tells the story of the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a
Paraguayan children’s musical group who perform using musical
instruments made from materials found in a nearby landfill.

2 year-olds and a parent or caregiver Join Children’s Librarian,
Mrs. Ferris, and her puppet helper, Shrinking Violet, for stories,
rhymes, and fingerplay fun. Weekly sessions are held in the Story

Ages 3—5 Picture book stories, fingerplays, songs, flannel board
and fun! Activities promote language development and pre-literacy

Bring a favorite stuffed animal, doll, or puppet to a special story

before saving the earth became a global concern, Dr. Seuss,
speaking through his character The Lorax, warned against mindless

We’ll read the story and do some crafts and games based on this

Crafter-School Special: Fingerprint Art Magnets Thursday, April 25
| 4:00—5:00 PM
Grades K—5 Ink up your fingertips and create images that will
fit on the back of a glass pebble. We’ll add magnets so they can be
stuck on a refrigerator or inside a locker. An afterschool snack
will be provided. Registration is requested.
Sensory Play Time Friday, April 26 | 10:00—11:00 AM
Ages 1—5 Play with your child at our sensory stations! Through
sensory play, children explore and use scientific processes to
play, investigate, create and discover new sensations. This program
incorporates the early literacy skill of play at several stations
for children to explore. Caregivers are expected to interact with
their child at each station.
Biblio-Bop Dance Party
Saturday, April 27 | 10:30—11:15 AM
Ages 1—5 and parent or caregiver For preschoolers who love to
dance. Hop and bop to music using bells, shakers, and a parachute
to
enhance the fun. There is no signup for this program. Just come and
be ready to move!

Poster Contest: Wood Library the next 160 years Grades 3—12 Submit
a poster no larger than 18x20 of what you think a library will look
like in the year 2179. 3 winners drawn. 1 submission per person.
Name, grade and phone number must be on the back of submission for
a chance to win a $50 Amazon Gift Card. Submit poster by Tuesday,

Wood Library's 5K Training Program is "out of this world!" The
popular training program for runners and walkers starts May 1
Wood Library's popular 5K Training Program kicks off on
Wednesday, May 1, and will run for ten consecutive
Wednesdays through July 10. The group training program will
be led by experienced 5K runner and certified race trainer
Lindsay Pennise, with assistance from runner Daryl Snyder.
This custom training program is designed for anyone who
wants to try a 5K for the first time or improve a personal
record.
Participants will meet on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-
6:30PM. The kick-off meeting will be held at Wood Library.
All
other sessions will take place at Canandaigua's Baker Park
(Buffalo St) or at Evans Field (Ft Hill Ave). Participants
must
be at least 16 years old and be registered for Wood Library's
5K by Friday, April 26. This program is limited to 40
participants!
A $25 fee covers all training sessions and one entry for
Wood Library's July 13 5K
race. Registrations are not
personalized training
of other trainees and

SAVE THE DATE: Library Funding Vote May 21, 2019
Canandaigua City School District voters will be asked to consider
an increase in
community-based funding for Wood Library on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.
The increase is
$32,268, or 4.83% over the base amount of $668,000 which was
approved by voters in 2018. The change will
increase the library property tax rate by approximately 1.3 cents
per thousand of assessed property valuation, adding
$1.99 to the tax bill of a property valued at $150,000. The tax
levy funds about 70% of the library's operating budget.
Anyone who is at least 18 years old, resides in the Canandaigua
City School District, and is a registered voter, can
cast a vote. The last date to register to vote in this election is
April 26, 2019. For more information and to

Art Exhibit: Veteran to Artist, Overcoming PTSD Through—April
27
Michael Tucker is a member of the Ontario County Arts Council, the
Finger Lakes Community College Student
Veterans Organization Liaison, a part-time student at Finger Lakes
Community College, and a resident of
Canandaigua. He received his AS degree in Fine Arts with Honors
from Finger Lakes Community College.
Michael has enjoyed art since high school. His passion for art lay
lurking until his retirement from the military in
2015. His love for various media has grown over the years as he
traveled around the world to West Africa, South
America, Italy, Spain, Puerto Rico, Cape Verdi Island, Afghanistan,
Kuwait, Israel and Turkey.
Michael enjoys experimenting with all types of media. His abstract
paintings and photography will be displayed.
Through self-reflection and internal vision, Michael creates his
art allowing himself to heal both emotionally and
mentally. Michael allows his art to express personal experiences in
his life that have been both exciting and difficult to
share.
His photographs have been selected for the International
Photography Award, Adobe Stock, and by Getty Images.
He received first place in design for his PTSD piece and honorable
mention for his curvilinear project in the 2017
FLCC Spring student showcase.
