Comprehensive Security for High-End Jewelry Store

Challenge:

Retailers everywhere are looking for

ways to improve the profitability of their

retail outlet. Implementing quality

network surveillance solution has proven

to be a key component in this effort for

benefits that include:

Reduction in inventory shrinkage

Improved logistics planning (i.e. staff

allocation, store layout, in-store

advertising, etc.)

Increased staff and customer security

Decreased resources allocated

towards investigating suspect

incidents, liability claims, etc.

However, executing an effective

surveillance solution while maintaining

an ambiance of sophisticated shopping

can be challenging. Michael C. Fina, a

high-end jewelry store based in

Manhattan, was faced with this

challenge when selecting a new

surveillance solution to protect their

heavily trafficked store. In addition, store

management team required an effective

way to analyze store performance to

optimize operation logistics.

GeoVision surveillance solution deployed at Michael C. Fina jewelry store in New York City

Located in a heavily trafficked neighborhood.

Solution:

To improve safety and security, a total of

75 GeoVision IP cameras have been

deployed at Michael C. Fina to cover the

entire store area, outside perimeter,

storage area, employee office area, CEO

office, and break room. The jewelry store

has opted for 5 megapixel models to

provide sharp and high-resolution videos

to reveal shrink related activities and

enhance positive identification.

5MP Fisheye IP Camera GV-FE5302 (painted black to camouflage with ceiling) provides the store with 360° indoor coverage.

5MP Mini Fixed Dome GV-MFD5301 stationed to secure each display section.

GeoVision Control Center setup in CEO office.

To secure valuable inventory, each display section is monitored by a GV-MFD5301 and

a total of 11 GV-FE5302 are installed throughout the store to provide 360° overall

overage. For aesthetics purposes, some of the fisheye cameras have been painted

black to camouflage with the ceiling color.

Data from the 75 cameras surveilling the store feeds back to 7 servers running

GeoVision’s video monitoring software, GV-VMS, which supports up to 64ch and

comes free with every GeoVision IP camera for up to 32ch. The wide range of useful

intelligent video analytics embedded in GV-VMS increases ease of monitoring and

reduces the need for manual supervision. The built-in Webcam Server allows store

personnel to remotely access live view and recordings from anywhere using Web

browsers, mobile app, and Remote ViewLog. GV-Control Center is also setup in the

CEO’s office to provide full access and control of the servers.

Solution (continued):

Michael C. Fina also utilizes the People Counting feature, which is part of the

embedded video analytics suit found in GeoVision monitoring software. Through the

use of strategically placed cameras, People Counting provides store managers an

automated method to record and measure customer activity to easily analyze store

performance and optimize store layout and staff allocation.

To increase customer awareness of the security system in place and thereby

discourage criminal activities, monitors displaying surveillance videos are positioned

throughout the store. To achieve this, the jewelry store opted for the GV-IP Decoder

Box and GV-Pad to cost-effectively decode and display video streams.
