Deadlines

• Goal: Finish college applications by Halloween so you don’t miss deadlines

• All recommendation, recommendation, or transcript requests must be submitted at least 3 weeks in advance of the college or scholarship deadline. Exceptions:– Early Decision/Early Action due Friday, Oct. 5th

– Jan. 1-6th deadlines due Friday, November 16th

How Do I Apply to College?

I. Electronic Transcripts and Teacher Recommendations via Naviance Family

Connection

If You Are Using the Common Application for Any of your College Applications

• Create or log in to your Common Application account at CommonApp.org

School Code

• Make sure you enter ASFA’s school code 010-326 in the Education section. Use the red “look up” link to find and select ASFA in the list of schools

Naviance Family Connection

• Log into Naviance Family Connection

Complete the Common Application Waiver on Naviance

• Under “colleges” tab at the top, select “colleges I’m applying to”

Complete the Common Application Waiver on Naviance

• Choose “Yes, I DO waive my right to access…” and check “I authorize all secondary schools…”

• Enter your Common Application username and password. – This information is used

for matching purposes only.

Request Transcripts and School Reports

• Click “request transcripts” under “colleges I’m applying to”– You can do this even if

you’re not using the Common Application

• Click “lookup” to select the name of each college to which you wish to send a transcript

• Select which type of decision plan (regular, early, etc.)

• Scroll down to bottom of the page and click “request transcripts” button

Request Teacher Recommendations

• Note this method is ONLY for requesting Common Application teacher recommendations

• Under “Teacher Recommendations,” click “add/cancel requests”

Request Teacher Recommendations

• Under “Add new teacher requests,” select the name of the teacher from the drop-down menu

• Use the “Note” box – Tell the teachers to which

colleges you need them to send recommendations because Naviance does NOT do this automatically

– Share any additional information.

II. Paper Transcripts and/or Recommendations

• If you are not using Common Application online or prefer paper, provide the printed forms, business sized envelopes, and sufficient postage.– Filing cabinet in Student Services

for transcript/School Report forms– Give directly to teachers for

teacher recommendations
