Butte County Appendix A.21 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Update May 2013
BUTTE COUNTY INVITES PARTICIPATION IN HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE
SAVE THE DATE MARCH 20th, 2012 9:00AM, LOCATION TO BE DETERMINED Butte County Office of Emergency Management is leading the development of a Multi -Jurisdictional All Hazards Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan Update also referred to as a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) to better position resources to address potential natural and man-made hazards before they occur and to maintain eligibility for mitigation funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Butte County, Biggs, Chico, Gridley, Oroville, Paradise and special districts, neighboring communities, state and local agencies, and other interested stakeholders are invited to participate in this planning effort. This LHMP, which updates the 2007 Multi-Jurisdictional All Hazard Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan, will be developed by a Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee with input from Butte County, city and district representatives, state and federal agencies, other local stakeholders, and the public. The plan will address a comprehensive list of natural and man-made hazards, including, flood, earthquake and wildfire, to dam failure, hazardous materials, and domestic security threats and will assess the likely impacts of these hazards to the people and assets of the Butte County planning area. The plan will also establish updated goals and prioritize projects to reduce the impacts of future disasters on people and property within Butte County. Participating jurisdictions and local stakeholder attendance is invited and encouraged at the upcoming kickoff meeting to introduce the Butte County LHMP Update process. The purpose of the kickoff meeting is to inform the planning committee, participating jurisdictions, and other interested stakeholders about the purpose and process of the plan and to describe how to participate and the benefits of doing so. Please come to the kickoff meeting March 20, 2012 at 9:00AM to hear more about hazard mitigation and the LHMP Update process. For more information on this project and how you can be involved, contact the Butte County Office of Emergency Management by replying to this e-mail or call us at 530-538-7373. Thank you, Cindi Dunsmoor

Subject: LHMP Consultant Available to Meet with Jurisdictions
Hello everyone, Our LHMP consultant will be in the area on December 13 (between 10am & 3pm) and has offered to be available to answer any questions and help with project development that jurisdictions may have. I am inquiring to see if you might be interested in scheduling an appointment to meet with her. I believe this would be a good opportunity to provide answers and comments to the consultant face to face. We still have several areas in the plan that has highlighted areas that need to be addressed. I would think a face to face meeting might make it easier to gather that information etc. We have reserved the Administration Conference Room at 25 County Center Drive. I understand this is short notice but thought we should take advantage of their presence here in Butte County. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in meeting with the consultant. Butte supervisors asked to form panel to
think unthinkable
By ROGER H. AYLWORTH- Staff Writer
Posted: 04/10/2012 12:10:34 AM PDT
OROVILLE — Sometimes the function of government is to think about the unthinkable, and
during today's meeting the Butte County Board of Supervisors will be asked approve the creation
of committee to do just that.
The proposal on the board's consent agenda asks for the creation of a Hazard Mitigation Planning
Committee.
Butte County is in the process of updating its "Multi-Jurisdictional All Hazard Pre-Disaster
Mitigation Plan," that was last updated in March 2007.
The plan is mandated by federal legislation passed in 2000 that requires the creation of the plan
to qualify for federal disaster mitigation grant funding.
The local committee, if approved, will include representatives from eight different county
agencies, all five municipalities in the county, people from seven different water or drainage
districts, as well as private citizens and other individuals appointed by the Butte County Office of
Emergency Management.
The panel is suppose to development of the hazard mitigation plan through assessment of the
flood, wildfire, and other hazards.
The supervisors' meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Administration Building, 25 County Center
Drive in Oroville.
Since the measure is on the consent agenda, it is likely to be passed without discussion unless it
is pulled for special consideration.

All, It’s now time for the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan to go through its public review process. This will include posting a hard copy of the plan in each jurisdiction as well as an electronic copy on the county web site which can be accessed by going to: http://www.buttecounty.net/Office%20of%20Emergency%20Mgmt/Local%20Hazard%20Mitigation%20Plan.aspx . We have print copies in the Biggs, Chico, Gridley, Oroville and Paradise libraries as well as each city/town hall. As a part of the public review process there will be 2 public meetings. The meetings will be Monday, April 29th in Chico at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 554 Rio Lindo and Tuesday, April 30th in Oroville at the Board of Supervisors Chambers. Both meetings will start at 6:00PM and last approximately an hour. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments on the plan. Thank you, Cindi Cindi Dunsmoor
