Introducing the AOD Infographic Poster

A collaboration between NCAT and Platform Trust

The Partners

Introduction

• Platform Trust and the National Committee for Addiction

Treatment (NCAT) combined forces to develop a poster

that profiles the work of alcohol and other drug (AOD)

treatment providers in New Zealand.

• This poster is a follow-up to the Platform publication

NGO Stories & Statistics (2013) and incorporates data

from a number of different sources alongside some

contextual information to help illustrate the rapidly

changing AOD landscape.

Acknowledgements:

Platform Trust and NCAT wish to acknowledge and thank everyone who has contributed to the development of this AOD infographics poster. In particular, Robert Steenhuisen & team (CADS, Waitemata DHB), Vanessa Caldwell & team (Matua Raki), Barry Welsh & Heidi Browne (Ministry of Health).

Special mention also goes to Nanz Nair ( of ‘Co-creating Good’) who was responsible for all of the design work on the poster.

Objectives

The objectives of the poster are to:

1. To provide an overview of the AOD sector with a particular focus on the need for treatment services and how DHB and NGO service provision has changed over time.

2. To increase everyone’s awareness (clients, family, staff, funders) about the work of the AOD sector.

3. To stimulate debate within the wider sector about what AOD providers are currently doing and what might need to change in order to meet the needs of the population.

The approach - telling a story

1. Who needs AOD treatment services?

2. Who is accessing AOD treatment?

3. Who has co-existing problems (CEP)?

4. Who works in the AOD sector?

5. How much funding is going into the AOD sector?

6. What are the outcomes for AOD clients?

and a taster........................................

NOTE: The funding figures used throughout the poster for specialist AOD services represents only that funding provided

through Vote Health and excludes funding from other sources (e.g. Dept. of Corrections)
