Title : Material Collection For Assam Flood
Relief

HIGHLIGHTS
We the Volunteers of NSS Unit no: 589, Sahrdaya College of Engineering and
Technology, Kodakar under the leader ship and guidance of NSS P.O Mr. Vijay
C U as to lent a helping hand for the Flood affected people of Assam State,
collected clothes and commodities from nearby homes and institutions on 24th of
July 2019 from 9am to 4pm and stored it in our facility. A total of 20 volunteers
participated in the service program. We were able to collect around 50 clothes for
women, 75 clothes for men 120 clothes for kids also were able to collect
commodities costing around 7000 rupees in the short span of time.
The materials were sorted and packed on 27th July 2019 from 12.30pm to
3pm by NSS volunteers Delbin Biju (S5 EEE) Alan Thomas (S5 CSE) and it was
transported to Assam with the help of MES college, Kuttipuram

REPORT ON NSS STATE ANNUAL MEETUP
The state annual meet up of National Service Scheme was held at Lal
Bahadhur Shastri Institute of Technology for Women,Trivandrum on 26th and
27th of July 2019. Sri Pinarayi Vijayan, Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala
inaugurated the function and Dr. K T Jaleel, Hon. Minister for Higher
Education presided over the function. About 354 NSS volunteers from different
NSS units participated in the meet up. Eminent personalities like Brahma
Nayakan Mahadevan lead the classes. Also the meetup became venue for the
Directorate level award distribution.
Our NSS volunteer Vishnu Chandran from S5 CSB participated in the
Meetup during the two days of programme.

HIGHLIGHTS
As a part of Orientation programme for 1st year students and to develop
community service mentality in their minds NSS unit of our college under the
guidance of NSS P.O Mr. Vijay C U & Asst. P.O Ms Jasmine has conducted an
orphanage visit at St.Paul’s Peace Home, Athanni on 1st of August 2019 from
10.30am to 4pm. A total of 406 students (56 NSS volunteers and 350 1st year
students) visited the orphanage. We distributed some clothes, food items and
medicines which we have collected via our volunteers. We also organized cultural
programmes which was a treat for the sore eyes of the residents.

The executive for the year 2019-2020 was selected in the Democratic way after an
election on 5th of August 2019 under the Supervision of NSS P.O Mr. Vijay C U. Mr. Basil K
Eldhose of S5 BTE and Ms. Anitta Sunil of S5 CE were selected as the Volunteer Secretaries.
Mr Nimal Krishna V U, Ms Keerthi V J, Ms Anjali Krishna Sree Kumar, Mr. Vishnu
Chandran were selected as committee members. The gathering also discussed on the future
activities and programme that the unit is planning to conduct. A total of 50 Volunteers
participated in the meeting.

Title : Independence Day Celebration

HIGHLIGHTS
NSS volunteers and other students in Sahrdaya College of engineering and
technology celebrated Independence day with patriotic fervour on August 15th,
2019.
Despite of prevailing flood and heavy rain NSS volunteers and other students
came forward for celebration activities held on the campus consisted of special
morning assembly, flag hoisting. Executive director Rev.Fr George Paramen and
student representative together hoisted the Tricolour.
Principal Dr Nixon Kuruvila and Rev.Fr George Paramen gave a speech
reminding the students and teachers about the sacrifices made by our great
freedom fighters. NSS volunteer Anitta Sunil delivered vote of thanks.
A collection point for flood relief “Nialmburin oru kaithang” was started by NSS
volunteers under the leadership NSS Program officer Vijay C U from Noon. 12
NSS volunteers conducted the programs. NSS volunteers and faculty members
contributed commodities to the collection point. Collection point continued till
4pm.

HIGHLIGHTS: DAY 1
With the prayer and blessings of Executive Director Rev.Fr George Paramen,
44 NSS volunteers under the leadership of NSS P.O Mr. Vijay C U and Ms
Sujana, started their journey to Nilambur for the flood relief survey at 4:30 am.
Around 10am we reached our destination. After a little fresh up a small
orientation class was given by the Nilambur Municipality for the volunteers.
Municipality Chairman Smt. Padmini Gopinadh, Municipality Secretary Akash,
Health inspector Shabareeshan, Fr. Johnson Thekkadiyil reminded us about how
important the work we are doing and frame of mind of the people who lost
almost everything. All the volunteers were instructed to take Doxycycline
tablets provided by the Municipality.
After finishing the food at 11:30am all volunteers were directed to ward 15 and
16 for the survey under the leadership of NSS program officer Vijay C U.
Survey Progressed upto 5pm. Lunch was at 5pm. At 5:30pm survey was
continued till 7pm. All volunteers returned back to the fellowship church where
we were allotted to stay.
HIGHLIGHTS: DAY 2
After all the NSS volunteers returned from church and fresh up, we
were gathered in hall for breakfast. At 9:30am all volunteers advanced
to the respective area for survey. As we go deep into the wards we
could see many flood affected houses, some of which flatten in its
place. All volunteers relentlessly tried to complete work at the wards
15 and 16.
For increasing the worktime, we were instructed to come back for
food after 4pm. After lunch and fresh up Valedictory function was
conducted at 4:30pm. Municipality Chairman Smt. Padmini
Gopinadh, 16th Ward Counselor Smt. Sherly teacher, Fr. Johnson
Thekkadiyil graced the function with their presence. Sherly teacher
briefly described to us about the hardship the people of Nilambur
went through. She thanked us for our effort.
44 volunteers with in two days done the survey of around 510 houses
out of which almost 40 houses were completely devastated. The
collected details were sorted as highly affected, affected, not affected
for both 15 and 16 wards and was handed over to Smt. Padmini
Gopinadh by NSS Volunteer secretaries Basil K Eldhose and Anitta
Sunil. Volunteers Amal Raj and Keerthi V J shared their experience.
NSS program officer Vijay C U concluded the program with vote of
thanks. At 6pm set back to our home town.

Title : Orientation Program for New NSS
Volunteers

HIGHLIGHTS
The orientation program and selection of New NSS Volunteers was
conducted on 22nd of August 2019 from 8.30am to 4.45pm at Indoor
Auditorium of Sahrdaya Engineering College. The registration and
reporting was completed by 9.00am. The programme commeneced
with ‘Manava geetham”. NSS Volunteer Secretary Basil K Eldhose
delivered the welcome address. NSS P.O Mr. Vijay C U managed the
orientation class. NSS Asst. P.O addressed the new volunteers. A total
of 54 students attended the program and 44 volunteers managed the
selection procedure which included exam, interview, group discussion
and a field work. Out of 54 for students 52 students were selected and
forwarded for Principal’s approval. NSS Volunteer Secretary Anitta
Sunil delivered the vote of thanks. The Programme was concluded
with National Anthem.

HIGHLIGHTS
By 9am all the volunteers reached the college as planned. The
volunteers were gathered around and the farming was under the
guidance of Mr Vijay C U, NSS PO. We started our duties by 9.15am
and completed more than half by 11.30am. We had a small break for
refreshments after which we continued the work. The works were
completed by 4pm

Abstract
A 2-Day camp as a part of the Golden Jubilee celebration of NSS was conducted at Kodakara Panchayath in association with Science Popularization Program supported and sponsered by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment, in association with Kodakara Grama Panchayat on 14th and 15th September 2019. The programmed aimed at bringing awareness among common people about the advancement in science and technology. The participants, college students and Kudumbasree members of Kodakara Gramapanchayath were able to gain hands on experience on vermicomposting, plastic waste management, biogas plant installation at homes, repairing of electrical home appliances and also awareness on automotive pollution. The NSS volunteers also arranged a Street play on the topic: Harmful effects of E-Waste. Prominent personalities, Kodakara panchayath President, Ward members, and Executive Director of SCET Kodakara visited the two-day Camp.
HIGHLIGHTS
DAY 1
The two day conducted as a part of the 50th anniversary of NSS, supported and
sponsored by KSCSTE commenced on 13th Sept from 2pm. 108 NSS volunteers
from our unit gathered in our college indoor stadium for Science
popularisation program, Spectacle of science. After Registration and venue
arrangement Orientation class for volunteers was given. Volunteers were split
into committees and camp arrangement was done. Cultural programs were
conducted by the selected volunteers. After a feedback section and dinner
volunteers retired for sleep.
DAY 2
On 14th August 2019, the second day of the camp, NSS volunteers assembled in
the college for the morning assembly as scheduled followed by the parade.
The day began with the Awareness Program on Automotive Pollution and
Emission control for the public vehicle drivers lead by Mr. Vincent K.P. which
made everyone realize about the need for a pollution free environment.
The inauguration of the camp, ‘Spectacles of science' was done in the
esteemed presence of President of Kodakara Panchayat, Mr. Prasadhan who
addressed the people gathered and wished for the success of the camp. Fr.
Jinoj Kolenchery, the finance officer of Sahrdaya college of Engineering and
Technology, delivered the presidential address. Key note was given by the
much beloved ward member, Mrs. Narayani Velayudhan. Mr. Vijai C. U. and
Ms. Jasmine did the felicitation.
NSS volunteers took initiative and conducted the workshops on
Vermicomposting, biogas plant, Awareness on biofertilizers, Repairing home
appliances effected by flood to the house wives gathered.
A street play was organized by the NSS volunteers on e-waste management at
Kodakara town.
NSS volunteers arranged a self-defense class for the kudumbasree members
which would help them gain confidence and the willpower to face every tough
situation. The camp day was conclude with cultural programmes, feed back
session followed by dinner.
DAY 3
Morning at sharp 5:30 volunteers gathered for morning assembly.
After fresh up and breakfast volunteers was gathered for collecting
the work equipments. After collecting necessary items volunteers
advanced to nearby houses for collecting plastic wastes. Around 30
sacks of plastic waste was collected. Volunteers came back to college
for lunch. A workshop on plastic waste management was given for
the gathered people by volunteers, where plastic waste can be used
to create use full items.
At 3pm Valedictory function was conducted. Kodakara grama
panchayath 14th ward member Sukumaran Kuriyath addressed the
volunteers for the works and classes for the people. Father Joby
Menoth wished the students. Nss program officer Vijay C U ,
assistant program officer Jasmine concluded the function.

2nd OCTOBER, 2019
` All the NSS volunteers were assembled by 8.45am on the 2nd of October
and the program began by 9:00 am. The program was conducted in the seminar
hall of the civil department, SCET Kodakara. The program commenced with
‘Manava Geetham’. The welcome address was given by Minsha M.Z (NSS
volunteer). Presidential address was given by the Executive Director of SCET,
Kodakara, Rev.Fr.George Pareman. Dr.Nixon Kuruvila, Principal of SCET gave
the Inaugural Address. It was followed by the key note address by Smt.
Naraeyanikutti (Ward member). The felicitation was given by Mrs. Sini Jiju,
Program Officer Planat Earth. The ceremony was concluded with a vote of thanks
by Annu Mariya Jose (NSS volunteer). After the inauguration ceremony Mr.
Sooraj Abraham, Corporate Trainer in Human Resource Management conducted
a work shop regarding waste management and recycling. Once the workshop was
over all the volunteers went to the organic farm for planting vegetable saplings in
growbags provided by Planat Earth. After lunch by 2pm all the volunteers were
divided to groups and was sent to Kodakara for cleaning a yard and also other
public places. 3 of the groups were assigned cleaning the plastic wastes and bring
it to the yard. The rest 3 groups were assigned in cleaning the yard.The NSS
Group also enacted a street play on the topic ‘Awareness on E-waste
Management’ at Kodakara Town. By 4.15 pm all the works were completed
successfully and the volunteers dispersed after National Anthem.

Highlights
A Blood Donation Camp was organised in the college by Unit 589 NSS
Sahrdaya in association with Medical college Thrissur, sponsored by HDFC
Bank Thrissur as commemoration of Police Martyrs on 17th of October 2019
from 9.00am to 12.45 pm. Out of 250 students and staff registered 139
volunteers donated their blood. The valedictory function began with NSS
Manava geetham. NSS Volunteer Secretory Basil K Eldhose welcomed the
gathering. Dr. Elizabeth Elias, Director, SCET delivered the presidential
address. Fr. George Pareman, Exe. Director, SCET, MR. Shibu SubInspector of
Ploice and Dr. Sajith, Medical Officer Thrissur Medical College gave
felicitation speech. Dr. Ajith Cheriyan, Vice Principal, SCET received memento
from Dr. Sajith. NSS volunteer Angel Rose Chakkiath delivered the Vote of
Thanks. The function was concluded with National Anthem.

HIGHLIGHTS
IEDC SUMMIT 2019, Asia’s biggest technical conclave was held at
Sahrdaya college of Engineering and Technology, Kodakara. NSS volunteers of
unit 589 NSS Sahrdaya actively participated in crowd management and venue
arrangement from morning 6.00 am to evening 8.00pm. The help reentered by
the volunteers was well appreciated by College authorities and the participants
of the conclave from different parts of Asia and abroad. The event also provide
the opportunity for the volunteers to meet eminent personalities and make a
good wrappo.

HIGHLIGHTS
NSS Volunteers of unit 589 NSS Sahrdaya attended a Nature Camp conducted
by Forest Department of Kerala Government on 20th, 21st and 22nd of December 2019. The
venue of this camp was at Peechi Wild Life Sanctuary, Thrissur. The camp provided the
volunteers with practical knowledge about forest, wildlife and much more. It also a perfect
opportunity to live with the nature.

HIGHLIGHTS
As a part of comemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahathma
Gandhi a cycle rally which started from Trivandrum til kazargode was
conducte. 6 of NSS Volunteers of unit589 NSS Sahrdaya participated in the
same. Also our college acted as one the boarding point for the riders which we
consider as a great privilege.

HIGHLIGHTS
NSS UNIT of Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology,
Kodakar conducted a cycle rally in connection with The FIT INDIA
Cyclathon campaign on 18th January 2020 from College to Kodakara
spanned over a distance of 5 km. The rally was flagged off by
Executive Director Fr George Paremen. Principal Dr Nixon Kuruvila,
Vice Principal Dr Ajith Cheriyan, Media Director Fr Jobi Menoth
were present for the same. Two of the Lab staff and 9 Nss Volunteers
participated in the rally.

HIGHLIGHTS
A campus cleaning programme was charted on 25th and 26th of January,2020 at
Pullur school. And all the NSS volunteers were present for this programme at
Pullur school.
The programme was inaugurated by Smt Saritha Suresh President Muriyad
Gramapanchayath All the NSS volunteers reached Pullur school by 9:30am.
On the first day,.i.e.,. on 25th January, after the inauguration , the NSS volunteers
under the leadership of NSS Program officer Vijay C U split into 3 different
groups. The first team was given the work to clean the whole campus whereas the
other two teams were given the work of highway cleaning. So one team started
cleaning from Pullur ITI and the other team started the work from the hospital
nearby the school. The work was completed around 12pm.After that every team
cleaned the rest of the campus and dispersed on 4pm.On the second day, campus
cleaning and water tank cleaning task was started by NSS volunteers under the
leadership NSS Program officer Vijay C U from morning at Pullur school. The
NSS volunteers were divided into different teams for cleaning the campus and
water tank. All NSS volunteers energetically completed the task within time. The
campus cleaning and water tank cleaning task continued till 4pm.

HIGHLIGHTS: DAY 1
The NSS 7 Day special camp “SUKRUTHAM 2020” commenced on Sunday
16TH February 2020 by 1.15pm at EMS Hall, Near GUPS, Anadhapuram,
Muriyadu. The parents of those volunteers who accombinied there pupil to the
camp site visited the camp site and ensured the safety. After a briefing about the
rules and guidance by NSS PO Mr Vijay C U, the camp registration was
completed. The evening session was taken by Muriyadu Panchayath AE Ms
Sreekala and Block Panchayath Executive Mr Byju. The session was regarding
GIS Mapping of the houses and plots for the upcoming project of NREGA. After
the session the camp dispersed for freshup and gathered back at 6.30 for Cultural
Activities lead by 2nd Group. After the cultural activities the family members of
Ex NSS Volunteer Secretary Mr Gautham T Ajith shared their experience who
were also NSS Volunteers of their time and still are. They consider NSS their life
breath and rendered all the help for the conduction of camp. The food committee
duties were entrusted to 1st group which they completed successfully and served
delicious food on time. After dinner Camp Evaluation was conducted under the
leadership of Volunteer Secretaries Mr Basil K Eldhose and Ms Anitta Sunil after
which the camp was concluded for the day.
HIGHLIGHTS: DAY 2
The 2nd day of the camp started with morning assembly lead by NSS PO Mr Vijay
C U AND 1st Group at 6.00 am on 17th of February 2020, NSS APO Ms Jasmine
Johny delivered the morning message 3rd Group read the report of previous day
and 4th group published the News paper. NSS PO Mr Vijay C U hoisted the NSS
Flag. The official Inaguration of Sukrutham 2020 was conducted at 11 am. NSS
VS Mr Basil K Eldhose delivered the welcome speech. Fr George Paremen,
Executive Director, SCET Kodakara gave the presidential address. The inaugural
address was made by Muriyadu Grama Panchayath President Smt Saritha Suresh.
Other important personalities who made their esteem presence during the
inauguration include Ward members, Principal SCET, Media Director Scet,
Block Panchayath Vice President, SubInspector of Police Puthukad, etc.
A session regarding First aid, safety and health care was conducted by Mr Manoj,
Health Inspector Muriyadu. After the lunch the volunteers cleaned the premises
of the school as a part of self-hygiene and premises cleaning. Evening session
was handled by Mr Shyam Krishna Asst Professor SCET regarding Media safety
and Internet Security. After the session the camp dispersed for freshup and
gathered back at 6.30 for Cultural Activities lead by 3rd Group. The food
committee duties were entrusted to 2nd group which they completed successfully
and served delicious food on time. After dinner Camp Evaluation was conducted
under the leadership of Volunteer Secretaries Mr Basil K Eldhose and Ms Anitta
Sunil after which the camp was concluded for the day.
HIGHLIGHTS: DAY 3
The 3rd day of the camp started with morning assembly lead by NSS PO Mr Vijay
C U AND 2nd Group at 6.00 am on 18th of February 2020, NSS PO Mr Vijay C
U delivered the morning message 4th Group read the report of previous day and
5th group published the News paper. Ms Sujana Asst Professor SCET hoisted the
NSS Flag. The assembly was followed by march past and yoga class.
The Anarkkadavu Canal cleaning was commenced from 3rd day of camp which
extended till noon. After fresh up and lunch the groups were assigned various
duties as the paper bag making training session was cancelled due to technical
difficulty. Evening session was handled by Mr Shijith Forest Watcher Chimmoni
Wilds Life Sanctuary on Wild Life and Human. After the session the camp
dispersed for freshup and gathered back at 6.30 for Cultural Activities lead by 4th
Group. The food committee duties were entrusted to 3rd group which they
completed successfully and served delicious food on time. After dinner Camp
Evaluation was conducted under the leadership of Volunteer Secretaries Mr Basil
K Eldhose and Ms Anitta Sunil after which the camp was concluded for the day.
HIGHLIGHTS: DAY 4
The 4th day of the camp started with morning assembly lead by NSS PO Mr Vijay
C U AND 3rd Group at 6.00 am on 19th of February 2020, NSS PO Mr Vijay C U
delivered the morning message 5th Group read the report of previous day and 6th
group published the News paper. Ms Sujana Asst Professor SCET hoisted the
NSS Flag. The assembly was followed by march past and yoga class.

was conducted. The books which were collected by NSS Volunteers was
handovered by M B Gopalakrishnan Sir to Mr Suresh K K, Mr Anil S I of Police
and Mr Akhil V V also made their esteemed presence. A class was given by M B
Gopalakrishnan sir about his life experience regarding agriculture. The evening
session was handled by Mr V P Anto on Personality Development. After the
session the camp dispersed for freshup and gathered back at 6.30 for Cultural
Activities lead by 5th Group. The food committee duties were entrusted to 3rd
group which they completed successfully and served delicious food on time.
After dinner Camp Evaluation was conducted under the leadership of Volunteer
Secretaries Mr Basil K Eldhose and Ms Anitta Sunil after which the camp was
concluded for the day.
HIGHLIGHTS: DAY 5
The fifth day of NSS 7 day special camp was started by a morning assembly
conducted by group 4 for which master Abhinav played the main role.The yoga
classes commenced by 6:30am under the guidance of program officer Vijay C
U.After having breakfast at 8:00am nss volunteers engaged in their respective
tasks.Volunteers mainly cleaned the surroundings of Muriyad LP school on that
day.Lunch was served at 1:00pm.The day ended with a flag of session led by
Vijay C U.Later in the day a class on fire and safety awareness was conducted by
Sri.Ajith and Prashobh.The class also focussed on general life saving methods in
emergency situations.The cultural activity session started by 6:00pm after the
class.It was colourful with the active participation from the volunteers.The
activities for the day ended with camp conclusion ceremony lead by program
officer Vijay C U and volunteer secretaries.
HIGHLIGHTS: DAY 6
Report of the sixth day of NSS 7 day camp, ‘sukrutham’.The day started with the
assembly at 6:00am and the march past conducted under the guidance of program
officer Vijay C U.After the yoga session volunteers was divided into six groups
and was engaged in the work of cleaning GUPS, Ananthapuram, Muriyadu
completely.By 1:30pm the volunteers completed the work and assembled for
lunch.By 2:30pm volunteers participated in class lead by an ex-nss volunteer
Sri.Ajesh.He shared the values of life through mirth and laughter to the
volunteers.He also conducted many games to make the class lively.By 5:30pm,
the class was concluded and everyone left for tea.At 6:30pm the cultural activities
was arranged during which NOVA member and ex-NSS volunteer Manoj sir
shared his experience as a NSS volunteer in his college days with the students.A
candle light dinner was arranged by 9:30pm.NOVA members and NSS volunteers
shared a common bond in the evening. Program officer Vijay C U welcomed
everyone to the gathering.By 10:30pm NOVA members returned home and the
election of new volunteer secretaries was also conducted.After which the day
concluded.
HIGHLIGHTS: DAY 7
The last day of NSS 7 day camp, ‘Sukrutham 2020’ was started with an assembly
at 6:00am.After the yoga session volunteers assembled for breakfast.The
volunteers engaged in different tasks according to the agenda of the day,The main
program arranged for the day was a flash mob by the volunteers at Muriyad centrs
as part of an awareness for blood donation camps.The program was widely
accepted by the public and many panchayat members were also present.The long
walk back to the school was compensated by watermelon juice.After the lunch
conclusion ceremonies started.Dr.Nixon Kurivilla, principal of Sahrdaya
Engineering College and Technology spent his time with volunteers in an
interactive session.The ceremony which started by 2:30pm saw the presence of
Muriyad panchayath president,panchayat member,block president and
such.During the same new NSS volunteer secretaries took their charge and
various awards such as best camper and group was given away.By 3:30pm the
flag was lowered and volunteers retuned home after a sweet desert.
NSS UNIT NO: 589
SAHRDAYA COLLEGE OF ENGINEEERING &
TECHNOLOGY, KODAKARA
The NSS Volunteers of Unit No. 589 of Sahrdaya College of Engineering
and Technology, Kodakara had taken part in a GIS Survey regarding GIS
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Ministry of Rural
Development and Government of India. The survey was organized on 21st, 22nd
and 23rd February 2020 starting from the EMS Community Hall, Anandapuram.
The survey was organized under the leadership of NSS Programme Officer Mr.
Vijay C U, Mr. Aljo C Cheriyan and Ms. Sreelekha, Assistant Engineer, Muriyad
Panchayath.
All the NSS Volunteers had gathered in the hall at 7:30am and the volunteers
were pre equipped with a Smartphone which had the application for the survey.
As per the given list there were 7 wards that were being surveyed, those were
Anandapuram Center (Ward No. 17), Thuruvankad (Ward No. 13),
Parekkattukara (Ward No. 04), Mission Hospital (Ward No. 14), Muriyad Center
(Ward No. 07), Pullur Andikambani (Ward No. 09) and Villerikkara (Ward No.
01).
The groups were earlier divided as per the number of volunteers available and the
Panchayath vehicle dropped the volunteers at their respective work site. Then the
contact was kept with the Panchayath member of each ward who helped the
volunteers to identify the houses and private properties that came under their
ward. The volunteers got split in small groups and carried out the survey process.
Required help was given by the Assistant Engineer of the Muriyad Panchayath
and all the queries were cleared as soon as possible by their team. After the survey
the Volunteers reported back to the starting point and gave the details regarding
the day’s work. With cooperation from everyone we could complete the survey
successfully in 3 days of time.
