The Lord Will Provide
His divine power has given us
everything we need for life….
2 Peter 1:3
They had traveled a long distance (likely several hundred miles), these Magi from
the east, bearing gifts of considerable worth, and going to great lengths to find this
new king of the Jews. What prompted these dignitaries of non-Jewish origin to go to
such effort and expense to worship a foreign king?
More importantly, how could they have known that the poor parents of this king,
who could only afford the least expensive sacrifice allowed by Jewish law for the
birth of children (Luke 2:22-24; Leviticus 12:6-8), would soon need enough
provisions to flee the country and settle into a foreign land to protect the life of their
infant son? They didn’t – but God did. He led them on their journey with a star, using
their burning desire to worship and their generous hearts to provide what was needed
at just the right moment to safeguard and sustain His Son.
The Lord continues to provide for us as His children today. Sometimes that
provision may come from a very unexpected source, as it did with the Magi. But
whatever means God chooses to use, we can rest assured that every need will be
supplied by Jehovah-Jireh – The Lord Will Provide.
Prayer for Today: Lord, you know our every need and possess the power and
desire to meet those needs. Help us to entrust our very lives to you. In the name of
Christ, we pray. Amen.
