Anandotsava 2010

A Proposal from Grey Matter and I.D.E.A.

2

The Current Scenario

Every branch has their own branch fest.

The College fest i.e. Anandotsava is lost amongst all the branch fests and never becomes the college fest it is supposed to be.

Fest after fest, the number of participants keep dwindling.

Repetitive events in every fest, that further reduces interest.

Some Statistics…

4

Number of fests conducted Annually.

Zest, Impulse, Overhaulin, ElectroVision, Spark, Parichay, Incise, Ignite and Anandotsava.

About 20-25 man days lost in these fests.

The college spends the same money, for publicity, food, accommodation, etc.

Each of these fests have similar kind of events that wont stimulate a participant’s mind.

The fests generally tend to have a downward curve of participants as the semester progresses.

5

Why Change?

There’s a saying that goes like this, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

Well, Anandotsava has had its share of success in the past, but in the past few years the branch fests in Nitte have taken the shine out of the college fest.

So its time we rejuvenated and gave a breath of fresh air to Anandotsava.

6

The New Anandotsava…

A Six day mega Techno Cultural festival.

Goes National level for the first time ever.

The image of NMAMIT, Nitte shines through the new Anandotsava.

Events of very high standards and competitiveness.

Technical Events get the push that they deserve, unlike the current emphasis on cultural events.

7

Benefits

A massive turnout of students from all over.

Saves time and money.

High Quality technical events can be held without any constraints. Multi-disciplinary events should be encouraged.

A big boost to the image of NMAMIT, Nitte in the country.

8

What’s in it for me?Branch Associations

Each branch gets to do technical events for a period of six days, rather than just two days as it always is.

Reduces the redundant work each branch puts in to organize their own fest.

So instead of focusing on the administrative stuff, each branch can strive to improve the overall quality of their own technical events.

Better access to funds, since starting this year there are no TEQIP funds.

9

Implications

Our students get to compete with the best in the country, and thus improve the overall quality of the event.

The Brand value of Nitte increases , and we will be recognized anywhere we go.

And Anandotsava becomes an engineering fest, rather than just any other fest, at par with Shaastra, Techfest, Saarang, Tech Tatva, etc

10

How will it Work?

11

Organizational Structure

For general events, a committee consisting of representatives from all branches along with one faculty member will decide the entire structure of the event.

For technical events, the concerned branch will take over all the things to be done.

In case of multi disciplinary events like Robotics, 2 or more branches can form committees and work together.

12

Initial Plans & Ideas

A Mega Techno Cultural in the last week of March for 6 days.

Over 40+ Technical & Cultural events.

During the fest, hands on Workshops on both technical and non technical aspects will be organized.

IEEE sponsored talks could be included.

An entertainment program every evening, promoting our rich local heritage.

All good, now lets get to the problems…

14

Budget

A 6 day mega fest will obviously incur a lot of expenses, but it will be offset by the money the college spends for every branch fest.

For Technical events, the respective branch can pool in funds from their branch or can approach relevant sponsors.

For general events, and other expenses like Food, Decoration, Stage, etc. the college would provide the funds.

15

Accommodation

Accommodation shouldn’t be a problem, we can use the entire old building for accommodation and the new block for the events.

During the VTU fest, everyone praised the accommodation, so it isn’t like we can’t accommodate a large number of people.

16

Food

Another issue that might crop up is food. How and where to serve so many people?

We can use the canteen and the meals section under it, the corridors of the old building, indoor stadium etc.

The sessions of breakfast, lunch, dinner can be made over a period like 7.30 AM to 9.00 AM to reduce the rush.

17

Stage

At the moment, the stage availability is a big concern because Sambhram isn’t sufficient for a large audience.

However the Quadrangle and the Main Grounds can be used as stages, as have been used in the past.

Which means we will have Sambhram, Shambhavi and two external stages in the form of Quadrangle & Grounds, which we believe should be sufficient.

Can we do it?

19

Yes. We Can!

We’ve done one of the best VTU fests ever held, on our campus.

We held a ISTE convention, a national event. Definitely a benchmark.

We also hosted the Justice K S Hegde Annual Award Function.

The different branches bring in a lot of know-how to do a successful fest, thanks to their past experiences.

And unless we take a step forward now, and shelve the divide between the branches and the differences that exist, we won’t be able to march ahead.

20

What Next?

We need to get this motion all the support it needs.

We have to start preparing now, because ideally to do a excellent fest we need 3-4 months to prepare.

Get the branch associations to come up with events, and to sort out the minor issues.

Have a website up and running by the end of the year or early next year.

Incentives to students who actively help in organizing this festival.

To Summarize…

22

Summary

A 6 Day Techno Cultural fest.

All branches work together and each branch gets to host their own technical events.

The general events will be hosted by an advisory committee consisting of representatives from all branches.

To be held sometime in the last week of March.

Treat this as a Prelude to the Silver Jubilee Celebrations.

23

The Achilles Heel

The biggest roadblock at the moment seems to be the fact that Dept. of ISE & Civil have already finished their fests.

We believe that though it might look a bit unfair to the other branches, a suitable and fair compromise can be reached at by negotiations.

Unless we act to remove the inter branch divide and differences , we will always be different departments and never a college that is NMAMIT.
