BHANDAREJ

It is said that Bhandarej is the same town as Bhadrawati mentioned in Mahabharat.

Ancient Bhadreshwar Mahadev Temple is from that period.

Besides farming people work with iron,leather and cloth printing.They also

make fine quilts.

BARI BAOLI BHANDAREJ

In the south of the village is a five story step well having typical Hindu

architecture.It is similar to Chand Baoli of Abhaneri.It was built by Kumbhani rajputs in 1732A.D.A secret tunnel joins the baoli

to the palace.

HISTORY

Around 11th century A.D.Dula Rai defeated Badgujjars at both Dausa and Bhandarej and ushered in the rein of Kachhawaha princes and established the kingdom of Dhundar.The Bhandarej Fort was built around then.It has been renovated extensively since.In 1994 it was made in to a Palace Hotel.

MAONDA-MANDHOLI WAR

In 1767 A.D. then aged Rao Dalip Singh was commander of Jaipur forces against Bharatpur ruler Jawahar Singh at Maonda-Mandholi, near Neem Ka Thana, for Jaipur ruler Sawai Madho

Singh I.In a fierce battle Rao Dalel Singh his son Kunwar Laxman Singh and grand son Bhanwar Raj Singh (11yr)all lost their lives.Such was the

bravery of Bhandarej chieftains.

An ancient city,Abhaneri,at one time was capital of nikumbh rajputs of chaman

dynasty who later on laid the foundation of Alwar. Some crucial scenes of ‘The Fall’,a

Hollywood fantasy thriller, by Director Tersem Kumar were shot here.

CHAND BAOLI

In eight century A.D. Raja Chand built Chand Baoli.It is about sixty five feet deep

with 3500 narrow steps with 13 landings to the water.

HARSHAT MATA TEMPLE Dedicated to Parvati it was built in the 7th

century A.D. in Mahameru style

MEHNDIPUR BALAJI TEMPLE

It is an important place of pilgrimage to hanumanji.The idol is part of the hill.It is known for ridding one of evil spirits and

curing madness.Other idols worshiped are of Bhairav Mahadev and Pretraj.Tuesdays

and Saturdays are very busy here.

BHANGARH

This ancient city,now in ruins,was said to be ruled by Rani Roopmati and was cursed by a tantrik who fell out of favor with the

queen and the city was destroyed overnight.It is said plans of Jaipur were

designed like those of Bhangarh’s.
