Text

• Shakespeare and his seven brothers and sisters were born in this house. As a boy Shakespeare watched father’s workshop and his father work there. Visitors can see the room where Shakespeare was born. There is an interesting exhibition on his life and times, as well as a traditional English garden and a shop.

• This world-famous thatched cottage was the house of Shakespeare’s wife, Anna Hathaway. Anna’s family lived there before their marriage in 1582. Cottage and garden remained in the Hathaway family until the 19th century.

• It was Thomas Nash’s house. He was the first husband of Shakespeare’s grand-daughter, Elizabeth Hall. Adjoining Nash’s house is New Place Garden. Shakespeare bought the site of the house in 1597. It was Shakespeare’s last house in Stratford. He died in that house in 1616.The house is in the heart of the town and it is one of the largest houses in the town. There are a lot of gardens in the area. You can see there the kind of furniture, paintings and exhibition of medicine herbs that add beauty to the rooms and those of his next door neighbour, William Shakespeare.
