• In 1867, the US annexed the Midway Islands. These islands got their name because they are “midway” between North America and Asia. They were wanted and used for a fueling station for ships sailing between US and Asian ports. – Locate and color the Midway Islands

expansion was limited to the huge Alaskan territory. The Spanish-American War marked the real beginning of the nation’s rise to world power.
