Step 3: BELLRINGER – SEPT 13, 2010

1. Flammable materials, like alcohol, should never be dispensed or used nearA. an open door.B. an open flame.C. another student.D. a sink.2. You are heating a piece of glass and now want to pick it up. You shouldA. use a rag or paper towels.B. pick up the end that looks cooler.

C. use tongs.D. pour cold water on it.

3. You are heating a substance in a test tube. Always point the open end of the tubeA. toward yourself.B. toward your lab partner.C. toward another classmate.D. away from all people.

If you have not taken the scientific method quiz yet…

• You have today and tomorrow to take it

Density Lab – Part 2Purpose: Finding density of water, a medicine bottle and a rock

You will need to write a Lab Report on this. I suggest you pay attention to what you’re doing. If you have a question, I am happy to help. But I do require that you listen to all instructions. 1st Consequences: Doing lab alone.2nd Consequence: Doing an alternate assignment.

• To find density of WATER...• FIRST: You will need to find mass. • You will use the triple beam balance. • Measure the container, add the water, measure again

and SUBTRACT • SECOND: You will need to find volume. • Easy! Use the same amount of water you had of the

triple beam balance, record level in graduated cylinder• THIRD: Density – you know how to do this!

Density Lab – Part 2

Density Lab – Part 2• To find density of ROCK…• FIRST: You will need to find mass. • You will use the triple beam balance. • Easy! Calibrate, put the rock on the balance, measure!• SECOND: You will need to find volume. • Be CAREFUL!!!!• Measure a volume of liquid. Add rock. Measure again.

Subtract!• THIRD: Density – you know how to do this!

• To find density of BOTTLE….• FIRST: You will need to find mass. • You will use the triple beam balance. • Easy! Calibrate, put the rock on the balance,

measure!• SECOND: You will need to find volume. • Measure a volume of liquid. Add bottle, submerge.

Measure again. Subtract!• THIRD: Density – you know how to do this!
