In these hills, Nature’s hospitality eclipses all that man can ever do.
The enchanting beauty of the Himalayas, their bracing climate and the soothing

scenery of these hills and the climate are to be surpassed,
if equalled, by any of the beauty spots of the world. After having been for nearly
three weeks in the Almora hills, I am more than ever amazed why our people
need to go to Europe in search of health.

Home to the Chand Kings, a medieval Rajput ruling clan of the Kumaon region, Almora was once
a kingdom of the royals. It was later taken over by the English and became a British territory. The
city thus has countless stories to tell, with cultures entwined, giving Almora its unique character.
Perched on a five kilometer horse saddle shaped ridge between the river Kosi and Suyal, Almora has
been the cultural and political hub for over 400 years and is the district headquarters of the Kumaon
region. Placed at 5,400 feet, enveloped by the Himalayas, with snow-capped mountains peeking
on the horizon, Almora is soaked in natural beauty. Green valleys, gushing streams, meadows and
quaint houses, the city exudes calm and peace.
Famous for its rich cultural heritage, unique handicrafts, sumptuous cuisine and magnificent
