2. Who was James Cook?
James Cook was a famous British explorer and astronomer. He was
born in 1728 and died in 1779. Cook made a number of expeditions to
Antarctica, Artic, Pacific Ocean and around the world.
3. Earlyyears
James Cook was baptised in St. Cuthburt church on the 3rd of
November.
4. Cooks first Voyage
Cooks first voyage was in 1768 and he and his crew returned to
England in 1771.
5. Why did James Cook explore?
Cook was chosen to explore because of hisexperience and also his
skills.
6. Interesting facts
Cook found New Zealand first and then discovered Australia. A dutch
explorer had previously been to Australia but he did not claim
Australia.
James Cook sailed to New Zealand in October the 26th 1769, and his
crew had a big fight with the Maori people. His facewas on the
front of a ten shilling coin.
