‘Vetter’s Letter
Season's Greetings to all. This is our last newsletter of the year… and what a year it was! We began the year with our annual Springfest, which ended an era with Dennis Corona as Chairman and his crew of Jim Fagan, Rich Ringhoffer, and me. Look out for our Springfest of 2012 — Marty and Laura Hegyi are planning some new and innovative ideas. This year we also had our club picnic, hosted by Marianne Mosher and her helpers. Another great Christmas party is being planned by Barb Parsons and crew. Those who went on the Indy—Mid America—Bowling Green trip planned by Jeff Mohring and hosted by the Minnichs and Carneys had a wonderful and fun‐filled time.
The only event missing was our Fall show at SteelStacks. The snow not only canceled our show, but left many of us in the dark (no electricity) for days. In addition to many Corvette club shows, we enjoyed Putt‐U, Lehigh Valley Grand Prix, and celebrations of Chevy’s 100th year at America on Wheels/SteelStacks.
Our President for the past two years, John Kostick, Jr., all officers, and the Board of Direc‐tors did a great job moving the Club forward. Looking ahead to 2012, I am hoping our members will continue to volunteer and participate.
Charlotte and I would like to wish all of our members a Merry Christmas, and a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year.
Please remember to pray for our men and women serving our country who make it possi‐ble for us to enjoy the freedom to live as we choose. Remember, freedom isn't free!

NCCC Events Please support our fellow East Region NCCC clubs by participating in these events ( = NCCC‐Sanctioned)
12/3: Regional Governors Meeting, Grantville, PA
*** WINTER BREAK ***
The East Region is comprised of National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) clubs from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Each club is represented, by an elected Governor, at all National and Regional meet-ings. Altogether, the clubs in the region, have over 2600 members, or 15% of the total member-ship nationwide in NCCC. We also have two of the ten largest NCCC clubs in the nation - Lancaster County Corvette Club (LCCC) and Cumberland Valley Corvette Club (CVCC) and the club that helped to start NCCC - Corvette Club of America (CCA, ER-001).
We're about more than Corvettes, though. NCCC is a "Bronze " sponsor of the National Transplant Games and supports the National Kidney Foundation through a yearly raffle of a new Corvette. Many other charities are supported by the regional clubs such as Spina Bifida, local hospitals and children's charities
For more information on NCCC events, contact AACC’s Governor, Pete Lileck (610-349-0120, flyhighusa@yahoo.com)

Show Us Your Ride by Marty & Laura Hegyi (Membership Co-Chairs, ‘69, ‘07) Joel Dean of Hellertown, PA is one of our newer
club members and the proud owner of this
2002 Magnetic Red Convertible with Black
interior and top. Joel purchased the car about
10 years ago and it only has 21,940 miles on the
odometer. It has the 5.7 liter LS1 engine pro‐
ducing 350 horsepower through a 6‐speed
manual transmission. The car is nicely optioned
with Preferred Equipment Group 2 package
which includes dual‐zone AC, fog lamps, mem‐
ory package, adjustable sport bucket seats,
heads up display, power‐telescoping and manual‐tilt steering column.
It is also slightly enhanced with color complimenting pin stripes on the
hood and several chrome additions, which really set the car off. Joel says
he loves this car "because of the way it looks with the combination
Magnetic Red paint color and polished aluminum wheels.
Do you want your “baby picture” to appear in the newsletter? Contact Marty & Laura with the details of your Corvette along with a photo. Forms are available to simplify the submission process.
Member Spotlight by Marty & Laura Hegyi (Membership Co-Chairs, ‘69, ‘07) This month we introduce you to Joel Dean of Hellertown, PA. Joel was a previous
club member back in 2000 and re‐joined AACC in June 2011. Joel has been
married to his wife, Fran, for 44 years and they have two children and eight
grandchildren.
Joel is self‐employed, as a sales representative, selling major pieces of capital
equipment to engineering firms that build power plants to generate electricity.
His interests and hobbies include playing tennis, cars (including his 2002 Corvette
convertible) and volunteering at ArtsQuest. He also enjoys working in his yard.
Joel is an avid sports fan and his favorite teams are the Philadelphia Phillies and
the Eagles. (Although maybe not this year...)
Joel's ideal vacation spots are Jackson Hole, WY, Hilton Head, SC and Florida in
the winter. He likes to hang out at car shows, ArtsQuest or anywhere there is a good blues band playing. His burning
desire is to stay healthy and to keep enjoying what he's doing.

Hard to believe, but it’s “THAT” time of year for many of us with a “lay-up” insurance policy (where the Corvette is off the road for a number of months) to
tuck away our babies for the winter. Before you tuck your baby in, remember these tips:
• Store car with a full tank of gas. While at the gas station, add gas stabilizer. If your car is stored for more than 3 months, double the amount of gas stabilizer that is recommended.
• Top off all fluids: brake, power steering, oil & transmission.
• Wash & wax just prior to storage.
• Clean the interior as well, dress all vinyl & rubber with appropriate treatments.
• To absorb moisture, place a couple bags of desiccant in the interior & in the trunk.
• Do not leave the emergency parking brake on.
• If storing on concrete, place a vapor barrier (plastic) on the floor under your car.
• Just before putting on the cover, don't forget to put the battery tender on.
C7 by Kevin Minnich (’00 Conv.), adapted from Jalopnik.com One thing is for sure — there is a new Cor‐
vette coming. Just like generations past,
many things are not certain. We should
be seeing the seventh‐generation Corvette
in 2014.
The vehicle will debut at the 2013 Detroit
Auto Show, but this rendering was derived
following someone’s ability to view com‐
pletely uncamouflaged "sheetmetal" of
two versions of the next‐gen. Rather than
depicting the base‐model, Jalopnik opted
to tease us with the later‐arriving ZR1
model. Three GM employees confirmed
this is an accurate representation of the C7
ZR1 and a fourth — a non‐GM employee
— confirmed that the vehicle shows here
is one of two Initial Vehicle Engineering
Release (IVER) vehicles that's been making the rounds at the Milford Proving Grounds.
Winter Storage Tips
The Secret History of Chevrolet MotorTrend.com, Nov. 3, 2011 William Crapo Durant's greatest failure led to the creation of Chevrolet. A year
after he incorporated General Motors, he went after Henry Ford's third, and most
successful, car company. Ford, according to Lawrence R. Gustin's biography of
Durant, was concerned about Selden's patent suit claiming invention of the auto‐
mobile, and was amenable to selling to GM if he could retain the rights for motor‐
ized farm implements.
GM was to pay Ford $2 million cash, plus $4 million at 5 percent interest over three
years. On October 26, 1909, GM's board "gave Durant authority to purchase Ford
if financing could be arranged," Gustin writes in "Billy Durant, Creator of General
Motors."
Banks were nervous about the nascent, fly‐by‐night auto industry, and refused
Durant a $2 million loan for the downpayment. During a financial panic in 1910,
GM's board kicked Durant out and let bankers take over his company.
Durant began work on his comeback and set up retired Buick race driver Louis Chevrolet with his own Detroit shop in
early 1911. Durant returned to Flint, Michigan, where he had seeded GM in the early 1900s, and bought the assets of
the failing Flint Wagon Works. He then got former Buick engine builder Arthur C. Mason
to set up a new operation, while Durant organized the Little Motor Car Company.
Durant incorporated the Chevrolet Motor Company on November 3, 1911. Louis Chevro‐
let was not an officer, but he experimented with large luxury cars while Chevrolet Motor
Company's Little brand sold lower‐priced cars against Ford. The first "production"
Chevrolet was the big, $2500 Classic Six of 1912, but the first Chevys, as we know them,
were the 1914 Royal Mail roadster ($750) and Baby Grand touring car ($875‐$1475).
Louis Chevrolet left his namesake company to return to racing.
The 1916 Chevrolet Four‐Ninety ($490) was Durant's direct shot at the Ford Model T.
By now, Chevy was thriving with factories in places like Flint and New York City. Its success
gave Durant the footing to buy up GM stock, with help
from the DuPont family and a New York bank president, Louis J.
Kaufman. Durant staged a coup d'etat, and on September 16, 1915, GM's seventh
anniversary, took control of GM again.
On December 23, 1915, Chevrolet stockholders increased capitalization from $20
million to $80 million, Gustin writes, and used the $60 million to buy up GM stock.
Chevrolet bought GM. It wasn't the other way around.

Looking Back on Corvette’s Past CorvetteOnline.com, Oct. 21, 2011 If you visited the NCM during the past few months, maybe you saw this in real life...the 1957 Corvette SS. It was the
first purpose‐built race car to carry the Corvette name. While the Corvette SS resembled the production car, it was just
a fiberglass shell over a steel tube space frame.
Corvette Chief Engineer, Zora Arkus‐Duntov, needed to have
the car ready within six months for the 1957 Sebring race.
Two versions were built. One, called the “Mule” was the pri‐
mary development platform and used a fiberglass body over
a steel tube space frame (weight: 1,850 lbs.). The second car
was to be the actual race entrant and would replace the
composite body panels with hand‐formed magnesium ones
(weight: 1700 lbs.).
The car would use the latest iteration of the small block V8,
equipped with fuel injection and delivering 307 horsepower. The front suspension consisted of unequal length A‐arms
with coil‐over springs and shock absorbers. The back end was made up with a de Dion axle, Halibrand quick‐change
differential and inboard, aluminum‐finned drum brakes. Ultimately, time was not a friend and the “Mule” was used for
the race. Although the SS was extremely fast for its day (top recorded speed of 183 mph), a series of mechanical prob‐
lems forced it to retire after 23 laps in the Sebring 12‐Hour race.
