N.8 Detention Monitor - High School and Middle School Co-Curricular
1. Responsible to: Principal
2. Function: Supervise those students who are assigned to after school detention program. 3. Timelines: Fall (August- November), Winter (December - February), Spring (March- June) 4. Duties:
a. Maintain accurate records of students assigned to the program.
b. Maintain records of attendance, including notifying the assigning teacher if detention was
completed or not.
c. Enforce all regulations which pertain to the program.
d. Provides a meaningful activity for students who arrive without study material.
e. Prepare a report of any incidence, problems that occur.
f. Help principal prepare evaluation of the program and make recommendations for the ensuing school year.
g. Monitor student pick up at the end of the detention time.
h. Perform other duties within the general scope of the job that may be requested by the principal.

The Board of Education of the Shawnee Local School District met in a regular meeting in the Board of Education Room, 3255 Zurmehly Rd., Lima, OH 45806, on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 6:00 PM. Upon roll call the following members responded: Mrs. Ellen Rovner, President; Mr. Clay Balyeat, Mr. Kenneth Gross, Mr. Mike Carpenter, and Mr. Robert Loescher. Also in attendance were James Kanable, Superintendent; Chris Cross, Treasurer; 4 administrators, and 10 members of the public. FIRST HEARING OF THE PUBLIC – Commentary Limited to Agenda Items None. CONSENT AGENDA Be it resolved by the Board of Education of the Shawnee Local School District, a majority of its membership therein concurring, with the recommendation from the Superintendent, that the following items be approved: RESIGNATIONS Amanda McGinnis, Transportation Bus Aide, resigned effective at the end of the 2016-17 contract year. Laecen Seese, Elmwood Paraprofessional, resignation effective August 9, 2017. RECOMMENDATIONS Amanda McGinnis, Bus Driver, 5 ¼ hour per day, Step 0, $18.06 per hour, effective August 22, 2017, for the 2017-18 school year. INCREASE AND DECREASE IN HOURS Tami Niemeyer, Maplewood Health Aide Assistant, add 3½ hours daily to current work schedule to work also at the High School. Brandi Vermillion, Transportation Department, decrease hours from 5.25 to 4 hours per day, and decrease from a 189 day contract to 150 day contract, effective September 5, 2017. Danielle Grothjan, Transportation Department, increase hours from 4.25 to 5.25 per day, effective September 5, 2017. Sheila Hamilton, Transportation Department, increase hours from 5.25 to 5.5 per day, effective August 23, 2017. BUS WASHING PAYMENT Pam Fruchey, Tina Modschiedler, Leah Diehl, Brandi Vermillion, summer bus washing and cleaning at their regular rate of pay. APOLLO REPORT Mr. Loescher stated Apollo will soon be removed from the state budget guarantee because enrollment is up. Adult education enrollment has also increased. In other news, Mr. Loescher said the house being built has experienced some delays, and all Apollo representatives will be staying at the same hotel for the OSBA Capital Conference. PRESIDENT’S REPORT – MRS. ROVNER POLICY CAREER ADVISING - IJA Be it resolved by the Board of Education of the Shawnee Local School District, a majority of its full membership therein concurring, with recommendation from the Superintendent that policy IJA - Career Advising, be approved.

Yeas – Balyeat, Loescher, Carpenter, Gross, Rovner Nays – none. Motion carried. Mrs. Rovner commended Isaac Hanover on receiving a perfect score of 36 on his ACT. She also publically expressed sympathies on behalf of the School Board to Bob Loescher on the passing of his wife, Bridget. Finally, Mrs. Rovner formally submitted her letter of resignation as a Board member, effective September 30, 2017. Mr. Loescher publically thanked everyone for the support and condolences expressed to him with the passing of his wife. In appreciation for her years of service and commitment to Shawnee Schools, Mr. Carpenter presented Mrs. Rovner with a Tiffany Apple. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT – MR. KANABLE Mr. Kanable and Mrs. Amber Straub gave a presentation on the Shawnee Schools’ report card. SECOND HEARING OF THE PUBLIC – For Public Commentary Not Limited to Agenda Items. Brian Krawetzke commended Amber Straub for her continued work on testing preparation and analysis. He also thanked the Board for supporting the arts. Next, Mr. Krawetzke expressed sympathies to Mr. Loescher and appreciation to Mrs. Rovner. Finally, on behalf of the Shawnee Education Association, Mr. Krawetzke provided the Board with results from a survey conducted by the SEA. OTHER BUSINESS The Board will follow the Ohio Revised Code when appointing a Board member to replace the vacancy left by Mrs. Rovner. DISCUSSION ITEMS None.
