Assistant Editor Explanation• All staffers who are not on the board have the option to become Assistant
Editors (AE)• There are several specific AE roles (selected by the Vol. 42 Board):• Formatter (2 positions)• Library Liaison• Accountability and Support Coordinator
• AEs can earn up to 4 credits (50 hours = 1 credit)• Credits can be applied to any term (Summer 2015, Fall 2015, J-Term 2016,
Spring 2016)• Hour examples:• Editing/Grading write-on submissions over the summer• Grading long paper submissions in the fall• Serving as “mentors” for staffers whose case notes/long papers are published• ACs, Proofs, Source Pulls, etc.

House Keeping Items• CS Hours• You must complete at least 6 CS hours this semester.• You must complete at least 20 CS hours for the year.

Issue 1 Update• Sent to the printer on Jan. 12.
• Hard copies set to arrive the week of Jan. 26.
• If you ordered a subscription, you can pick up your copy from the LRO.

Newspaper Articles
• Rule: Give a parallel cite to Westlaw or Lexis if the newspaper article is available on either database.• Westlaw has unique identifier (e.g., available at 2014 WLNR
255212)• Lexis does not have unique identifier (e.g., available at LEXIS)
• Rule: Only cite to a website if the article is not available on Westlaw or Lexis. Use Rule 18.2.2.

Semicolons Between Signals of the Same Kind
• Rule 1.3: Signals of the same basic type—supportive, comparative, contradictory, or background . . . —must be strung to together within a single citation sentence and separated by semicolons.
Example:
See Jane v. Joe, 2 N.W.2d 2 (Minn. 1980). See also Tim v. Mary, 3 N.W.2d 10 (Minn. 1982).

Capitalizing Words in Headings and Titles
• Rule 8(a): “Capitalize all words in a heading or title, including the initial word and any word that immediately follows a colon. Do not capitalize articles, conjunctions, or prepositions when they are four or fewer letters, unless they begin the heading or title, or immediately follow a colon.”
Tip: Capitalize all verbs (even really short ones)
