Stockport United is a non party-political umbrellaorganisation made up of local people, Trade Unionists and groups

who are campaigning against the injusticesproduced by the Government’s austerity cuts.

We are committed to working together cooperatively to alleviate the hardships and divisions in society and the damage to

the environment that have all been madesignificantly worse by these cuts.

We will campaign, in co-ordination with similaranti-austerity groups around the UK and the People’sAssembly, to keep our public services and to oppose

privatisation which puts profits before people.

We oppose all scapegoating, stigmatisation & racism and believe that all people should have a decent quality of life with

access to the health care and benefits they need; affordable housing; a living wage and legal justice.

AUSTERITY:A CATALOGUE OF CUTS!

THE BEDROOM TAX Tenants receiving housing benefi ts lost 14% i f they had one ‘spare’ bedroom, and 25% for two or more ‘spare’ bedrooms. This wil l affect 660,000 families , 31per cent of al l working age famil ies in the social rented sector, according to the TUC.

LEGAL AID Divorce, child contact , welfare benefi ts , employment , cl inicalnegligence cases no longer get public funds. Vic t ims of domestic violence musthave proof before they can claim a legal aid.

THE TOP RATE OF TAX In 2012 the top rate of tax was cut from 50p to 45p .

EDUCATION MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE 16 to18-year-olds in further educations courses in England lost their EMA grant , which worked out as £30 a week for those from the poorest households, in 2010.

CHILD BENEFIT This was frozen for three years. The TUC has est imated thata family with 2 children wil l have suffered, by 2015-16, a cumulative loss of more than £1,000 .

UNIVERSITIES By 2013, funding for universi t ies had been cut by more than £800m . The Government increased the cap on how much universi t ies can charge for tui t ion fees from £3,290 a year to £9,000 in 2010.
