This guide walks you through the process of installing / configuring Advantech

SNMP on ECU device.

The following list outlines the process:

1. This file based on the Windows 7 64-bit system as an example.

2. The target platform refers to the ECU device.

1 Windows SNMP configuration The Advantech SNMP Subagent is based on the Windows SNMP Service. You

must install the Windows SNMP Service and configure it on the supported

Operating Systems.

You can manage it on the Services Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-

in.

1.1 Step 1: Install SNMP Service If the SNMP Service does not exist, you can turn on the Simple Network

Management Protocol by the following steps.

1. Go to Control panel > Programs and Features.

2. Click Turn Windows features on or off on the left panel.

3. In Windows Features window, check the Simple Network Management

Protocol checkbox. (Figure 1-4)

4. Click OK to add features.

1.2 Step 2: Configure SNMP service

1. Open the Services snap-in to configure the SNMP Services.

2. In the Services snap-in, right click on SNMP Service and click Properties.

3. Make sure the Startup Type of the SNMP Services. is Automatic.

4. Select the Traps tab. Type public in community name combo box. And then

click on the Add to list button.

5. Click on the Add… button.

6. Enter 127.0.0.1 on the SNMP Service Configuration windows. And then

click on the Add button.

7. Click on the Apply button.

8. Select the Security tab. And check the Send authentication trap checkbox.

9. Click on the Add… button to set Accepted community names.

10. On the SNMP Service Configuration window, select READONLY on

Community rights, type your community name (e.g. public) on Community

Name edit box, and click Add.

11. Click on the Add… button to set Accepted community names.

12. On the SNMP Service Configuration window, select READWRITE on

Community rights, type your community name (e.g. private) on Community

Name edit box, and click Add.

13. Check Accept SNMP packets from any host option.

14. Click Apply button to apply settings.

2 Install Advantech Device Drivers For Advantech ECU device, the Advantech SNMP Subagent requires the following

Advantech drivers:

Advantech Lmsensor Driver

Advantech Watchdog Driver

2.1 Install Advantech Lmsensor Driver If you need the Advantech SNMP Subagent provide the Temperature and Voltages

information, you must install the Advantech Lmsensor Driver.

To install the Advantech Lmsensor Driver on ECU

1. Run the AdvEC_V1.04.003.exe first.

2. Run the AdvLmsensor_EC_V1.14.002.exe.

You can find the Advantech EC Device and the Advantech EC Hardware

Monitor under the Advantech IAG Onboard Devices in the Windows Device

Manager.

2.2 Install Advantech Watchdog Driver If you need the Advantech SNMP Subagent provide the current Watchdog

configuration and current state, you must install the Advantech Watchdog Driver.

To install the Advantech Watchdog Driver on ECU

1. Run the AdvWDT_v1.30.001.exe and select the setup type "Advantech

[W83627] WDT".

You can find the Advantech W83627 Watchdog under the Advantech IAG

Onboard Devices in the Windows Device Manager.

3 AdvSNMPAgent Installation

3.1 Install Advantech Kernel Driver and Advantech

SNMP Subagent

1. Run AdvSNMPSubagent_V1.02.003.exe, click Next button to continue.

2. The installation package will install the Advantech Kernel Driver which is

needed by Advantech SNMP Subagent.

3. The Installation may pop up the following message, click Install to continue.

4. On the SNMP Configuration click Next to continue.

5. On the Ready to Install SNMP Subagent click Install to install.

6. On the Completed the Advantech SNMP Subagent Setup Wizard click

Finish.

7. Click Close.

3.2 Check the Advantech Kernel Driver After the Advantech SNMP Subagent is installed successfully, make sure the

Advantech Kernel Driver is installed.

You can find the Advantech Kernel Driver under the Advantech IAG Onboard

Devices in the Windows Device Manager.

4 Get MIB files The MIB files are available after you installed the Advantech SNMP Subagent on

the target platform. Please copy these two files (advantech-common-

mib.mib and IAG-PLATFORMS-MIB.mib) to your client platform in advance.

To Get MIB files

After the Advantech SNMP Subagent installation finished, you can find the MIB

Files from Start menu > All Programs > Advantech > SNMP Subagent >

MIB Files as shown in Figure 4-1.

The location of MIB Files is shown in Figure 4-2.

For x86, in C:\Program Files\Advantech\AdvSNMPAgent\MIB Files\.

For x64, in C:\Program Files (x86)\Advantech\AdvSNMPAgent\MIB Files\.

Please copy them to your client platform.

5 Test with the iReasoning MIB browser The Advantech SNMP Subagent has been tested with the iReasoning MIB Browser.

5.1 Installing the iReasoning MIB browser Download (Link: http://ireasoning.com/mibbrowser.shtml) and install the MIB

Browser on your client platform (such as your PC).

5.2 Using the iReasoning MIB browser 1. Open the iReasoning MIB browser in the client platform, and Load MIBs by

click File > Load MIBs.

2. Select the advantech-common-mib.mib and IAG-PLATFORMS-MIB.mib

file copied form the target platform which Advantech SNMP Subagent is

installed.

3. In MIB browser, enter the IP address of the target platform which Advantech

SNMP Subagent is installed.

4. Click Advanced…, enter public in Read Community and private in Write

Community on the Advanced Properties of SNMP Agent window. Click on OK.

5. For example, you can get CPU information as following photo.

Double click on the object (such as cpuLoading), and target platform will reply

the message of the object (cpuLoading) at right side of window.
