“Advancing Native Health and Wellness”
A joint conference of the Association of American Indian Physicians and the
University of Hawai‘i – Center for Native and Pacific Health Disparities Research
July 31 – August 5, 2012
William A. Egan Civic Center
Anchorage, Alaska
Overall Conference Objective:
The objective of this conference is for health and medical education programs
within the Alaska Native, Native American, and Native Hawaiian communities to
grow in capacity, and to grow in their ability to implement culturally appropriate
models of health care and service delivery systems that improve the health and
wellness of Native peoples. The disparities in health care amongst Native peoples will
be addressed through the application of scientific advances in medicine, in
congruence with traditional healing and culturally holistic practices. To “ho`oulu”
[cause growth and inspiration] in this knowledge, we begin by building medical
training opportunities, faculty development programs, and diversity in biomedical
research and the health care workforce of, and for, Native peoples.
Target Audience:
This program should be of interest to physicians, physicians-in-training, social
scientists, nurses, cultural practitioners and health care providers who serve Native
and Pacific Peoples.
Continuing Medical Education:
The Hawaii Consortium for Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing
medical education for physicians.
The Hawaii Consortium for Continuing Medical Education designates this live activity
for a maximum of 21.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only
the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Sponsored by the Hawai‘i Consortium for Continuing Medical Education, a joint venture between the
Hawai‘i Medical Association and the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
