❖ When Google was founded in September 1998, it was

serving ten thousand search queries per day. By the end

of 2006 that same amount would be served in a single

second

❖ Google now processes over 40,000 search queries every

second on average (visualize them here), which

translates to over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2

trillion searches per year worldwide. The chart below

shows the number of searches per year throughout

“search”

❖ Use quotes to search for an exact word or set of words

on a web page. Only use this if you're looking for an

exact word or phrase, otherwise you'll exclude many

helpful results by mistake.

❖ Used to exclude all results that include that word.

site:

❖ Get results only from certain sites or domains.

❖ Search only for specific file types.

wildcard terms.

EXAMPLE: a * saved is a * earned

❖ If you want to search for pages that may have just one of several words, include OR (capitalized) between the

words.
