General Education Development- (GED®)
The General Education Development (GED®) Testing program has been used for over 65 years to measure and evaluate the
knowledge and skills necessary to pursue higher education, obtain specific jobs, gain promotions, and achieve personal goals. A GED® certificate is considered the equivalent of a high school diploma and is recognized throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. It is offered in both English and Spanish. Students with special needs can apply for accommodations in advance. The General Educational Development (GED) exam is a national test designed to measure the skills and concepts usually learned during the four years of high school. Most employers (95%) consider it the equivalent of a high school diploma. Community colleges accept this in place of a diploma. The GED® test is entirely computer-based. There are four content areas: Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. To pass, the examinee must receive a score of at least 145 on each test module.
Registration. Oxnard Adult School is an official PEARSON Vue Test Center. Registration for the GED® Test is done online only. The examinee must have an e-mail address and a major credit card. In case an examinee does not have a credit card, they can purchase a voucher at the Oxnard Adult School office. The test fee is $140. The fee to retake a failed test is $15. Examinees must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid government issued photo ID. The fees may change.
For new GED test takers: Log on www.ged.com Click REGISTER TODAY, then FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.
If re-taking tests: Click Log in to your account, then FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.
To review scores click REVIEW SCORES, then FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.

Student must be 18 years or older and not a high school graduate. To schedule an exam, you must have an e-mail address and go online to create your profile. Go to HiSET.ets.org and enter the test takers tab. Find the tab marked create an account and fill in all the information. This website also offers free sample questions and practice tests to help you pre-pare for the exam. After you create your profile, print out the page with your HiSET ID number. To schedule your examination, you must register at the Oxnard Adult School office. You must bring a copy of your HiSET home page showing your name and ID number, and a valid identification (CA Driver ’s license or ID, military ID, passport or interna-tional government ID with current picture) to schedule your test and on each test day. This course offers students intensive instruction in English grammar, from the basics, like the parts of speech, to more challenging concepts like dependent clauses. Although OAS students learn grammar every day, some may feel they have deficiencies from classes they have missed while others may feel they need the extra practice. This class is for them.
This course will help students improve their English skills by expanding their vocabularies, strengthening their sentence structures, and organizing their thoughts. Using a write, edit, rewrite approach, students will practice daily. They will write letters to a child’s teacher, a letter to a landlord about a household problem, a cover letter and a resume, a letter of recommendation, an email to a friend, and so forth. This class gives students an opportunity to receive immediate feedback and individualized attention in order to sharpen their writing skills and increase their confidence.
Students will explore career options, gain the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace, learn about educational and training opportunities, and develop digital literacy skills. Special features include videos where a career counselor role-plays real workplace scenarios. Students will also create a portfolio which can be used as reference materials as they move along their career pathway.
This course is for English learners who work in a child care or an at-home environment, want to prepare for entering the field of early childhood education, or are parents. Students will have the opportunity to practice childcare field specific vocabulary and conversations; learn to effectively communicate with parents, teachers, and other child care providers and get familiar with Ameri-can pop culture such as songs, nursery rhymes, and games.
This course integrates English language and literacy development with automotive skills. This is an entry level course that intro-duces students to three areas of the auto industry: auto service, auto body and auto paint.
