Minimum Admission Requirements: B.Ed. Degree* Minimum grade point average of 3.0 Valid teaching certificate* Two years of teaching experience Two letters of reference, attesting to character, teaching ability, and scholarly aptitude
Competence in spoken and written English Pre-admission statement of interest & sample of written work
International students: please refer to the English Proficiency Requirements on the BU website
* Only in exceptional circumstances will students without a B.Ed. degree be considered for admission. Applicants with a relevant undergraduate degree and professional experience may apply.
Students must complete all M.Ed. program requirements within six (6) years of the commencement date of their 1st graduate course registration. EDUCATION

Guidance and Counselling:The Guidance and Counselling specialization prepares educators and community mental health practitioners to be counsellors. Students in the program will acquire knowledge and skills to provide ethical individual and group counselling interventions, mental health wellness and prevention programming, and guidance education. In addition to a Master of Education degree, this program leads to the Manitoba School Counsellor Certificate.
Inclusive Education: The Inclusive Education specialization prepares educators to be school leaders in the practice of inclusive education and resource implementation. The program emphasizes a disability lens to understand and undo difference, stigma, and to support current positive inclusive practices.
This specialization was formerly titled Special Education and, in addition to a Master of Education degree, this program leads to the Manitoba Special Education Certificate.
Specializations:Curriculum and Pedagogy:The Curriculum and Pedagogy stream is a flexible program of study that will enable educators to examine and enhance their understanding of curriculum and pedagogy. It invites educators to deepen and enrich their knowledge of curriculum as it is broadly conceived. The stream also supports areas of specialization through the process of critical inquiry or inquiry-based learning. This stream is particularly suited to those educators who wish to become instructional leaders and learning specialists.
Educational Administration:The Leadership and Educational Administration graduate program enables current and aspiring educational leaders to enhance their leadership capacity. Students will critically engage in contemporary educational issues related to leadership praxis, school change, mentorship, case law, policy, supervision and social inclusion. This stream is particularly suited to educators who wish to become instructional leaders, school administrators or leaders in school systems.
Programs:36 credit hour Master of Education Program (for all 4 specializations)
Routes available: Course route: Students complete 36 credit hours of course work.
Thesis route: Students complete 27 credit hours of course work and a 9 credit hour thesis. Students may apply for thesis route only after successful completion of 15 credit hours.
Second Master of Education Program (for all 4 specializations)
Students who have obtained their first 36 credit hour M.Ed. degree from Brandon University may complete an additional M.Ed. degree, consisting of 24 credit hours in another specialization.
