Strengthen Arkansas Educational Leadership Development

andProvide School Support

Three Purposes:1.Serve as a central body to coordinate the leadership development system efforts across the state;2.Assist the Department of Education, the Department of Higher Education, the Department of Workforce Education, the Arkansas Leadership Academy and other leadership and school support efforts; and3.Aid in the development of model evaluation tools for use in the evaluation of school administrators.

Purpose of ReportIdentify: Deficient areas of school leadership, innovative programs to address deficient areas, progress made to improve school leadership, plans to improve school leadership

Deficient areas of school leadership:

1.Leadership recruitment2.Principal mentoring3.Superintendent mentoring

Innovative programs to address deficient areas:1.All organizations focused on recruitment2.ADE is redesigning the principal’s mentoring program with input from a Task Force3.AAEA is developing the superintendent’s mentoring program

Progress made to improve school leadership:1.Teacher evaluation rubric2.Principal evaluation rubric

Plans to improve school leadership:

1.Develop a strategic plan for an Arkansas Leadership System2.Recommend a superintendent’s evaluation rubric and professional development for school boards3.Support changes in licensure
