General information
Release content information
This document provides release content information on the BluStar 8000i Desktop Media Phone and BluStar for Conference Room firmware.
Update URL
In order for the BluStar devices to download software, the “update url” parameter must be in either the <mac>.cfg, <model>.cfg (8000i.cfg [for the BluStar 8000i] or 8000icr.cfg [for the BluStar for Conference Room]), or aastra.cfg file. It is recom-mended to have this parameter in the <mac>.cfg file.
For example:
update url: ftp://10.55.102.56/aastracfg
Important BluStar 8000i firmware upgrade/downgrade information
Upgrading the BluStar 8000i firmware to Release 4.3.0 from a version prior to Release 4.1.1 involves a two-step process. It is required to first upgrade to Release 4.1.1 and then to Release 4.3.0 in such scenarios.
Additionally, downgrading the firmware from Release 4.3.0 to Release 4.1.1 (or a ver-sion prior to Release 4.1.1) involves a two-step process as well. It is required to first downgrade to Release 4.1.2, and then to Release 4.1.1 (or the desired firmware version prior to Release 4.1.1) in such scenarios.
The upgrade/downgrade process will fail if the above procedures are not followed.

Additional Information
Customized Codec Preference List
A new configuration parameter, “sip customized codec”, has been introduced in Release 4.3.0 allowing Administrators the ability to customize the codec preference list on the BluStar devices.
To customize the codec preference list, Administrators must define the payload value (payload), packetization time (ptime), and silence suppression setting (silsupp) for each respective payload in order of preference.
Payload is the codec type to be used. Each codec utilized by the BluStar devices has a corresponding payload value (representing the data format carried within the RTP packets to the end user at the destination). By defining the payload value in order of preference, the BluStar devices will take the configured preference list into consider-ation when negotiating calls with other devices.
Ptime (packetization time) is a measurement of the duration of PCM data within each RTP packet sent to the destination. The packetization time defines how much network bandwidth is used for transfer of the RTP stream. For BluStar devices, the ptime will always be set to 20ms.
Silsupp is used to define silence suppression settings. For BluStar devices, silence suppression is always disabled.
Configuration Features
Note:While defining the ptime and silsupp values are mandatory, any values deviating from the defaults will be ignored (i.e. packetization time will always default to 20ms and silence suppression will be disabled).

Additional Information
Option to Disable Call Waiting
The call waiting feature notifies a user on an active call of a new incoming call. With Release 4.3.0, Administrators now have the option to disable the call waiting feature using the “call waiting” parameter, so that new incoming calls are automatically rejected by the BluStar device with a 486 Busy Here message.
If you disable call waiting on the BluStar device and the user is on a call, any additional incoming calls will receive a busy message unless the “Call Forward Busy” option is configured. If this is the case, the BluStar device will forward the call accordingly as per the rules configured.
Administrators can enable/disable call waiting using the configuration files. The “call waiting” parameter is enabled by default.
Enable/Disabling the Call Waiting FeatureUse the following parameter to enable/disable the call waiting feature:
Parameter – call waiting
Configuration Files –aastra.cfg, <model>.cfg, <mac>.cfg, <user>.cfg
Description Allows you to enable or disable call waiting on the BluStar device. If you enable call waiting (default), the user has the option of accepting a second call while currently on the first call. If you disable call waiting, and a user is currently on a call, a second incoming call is automatically rejected by the BluStar device with a busy message. If you disable call waiting on the BluStar device, and the user is on a call, any additional incoming calls will receive a busy message unless the “Call Forward Busy” option is configured. If this is the case, the BluStar device will forward the call accordingly as per the rules configured.

Additional Information
Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP) Support
The BluStar devices now support the Secure Real-time Transfer Protocol (SRTP), using Session Description Protocol Security (SDES) key negotiation, for encryption and authentication of RTP/RTCP messages sent and received by the devices on the net-work.
Administrators and users can choose among three levels of SRTP encryption:
• SRTP Disabled (default): BluStar devices generate and receive non-secured RTP calls. If a BluStar device with SRTP disabled receives a call from an SRTP-enabled device, it ignores SRTP and tries to answer the call using RTP. If the calling device requires calls to utilize SRTP, the call fails; however, if SRTP is not a requirement, it will accept the call using RTP.
• Allow Secured Calls: The BluStar device generates SRTP calls, and accepts both SRTP and RTP calls. If the receiving device is not SRTP enabled, it sends a non-secured RTP call instead.
• Require Secured Calls: The BluStar device generates and accepts SRTP calls only. All other calls are rejected.
When an active point to point call is using SRTP (i.e. when an SRTP-enabled device ini-tiates a call and the receiving device is also SRTP enabled) and the transport protocol is set to TLS, the BluStar devices’ UIs display the following lock icon beside the remote party’s information, indicating that audio, video, and signaling is secure.
When a conference call is using SRTP (for all devices) and the transport protocol is set to TLS, the BluStar devices’ UIs display indicating that audio and signaling is secure, but video is not secure.
When only TLS is enabled during a call, the BluStar devices’ UIs display indicating that signaling is secure, but audio and video are not secure.
SIP Features
Note:If you enable SRTP, then it is recommended to enable Transport Layer Security (TLS) for increased protection. To configure TLS refer to the Aastra BluStar 8000i Desktop Media Phone / Aastra BluStar for Conference Room SIP Call Server Administrator Guide.Draf
t 1
41-001468-03 REVRC2 - 09.2013 9
Additional Information
During any type of call, if one of the devices does not support SRTP and if TLS is not enabled, the UI does not display any icons, indicating that the call may not be secure.
Administrators have the option of configuring SRTP using the configuration files or through the BluStar device’s UI. Users can configure SRTP using the BluStar device’s UI only.
Configuring SRTP Using the Configuration FilesUse the following parameter to configure SRTP using the configuration files:
Parameter – sip srtp mode
Configuration Files –aastra.cfg, <model>.cfg, <mac>.cfg, <user>.cfg
Description Specifies the degree to which SRTP should be utilized on the respective BluStar device as per the following levels:• If set to 0, then disable SRTP.• If set to 1, then SRTP calls are preferred (i.e. allow secure calls).• If set to 2, then only SRTP calls are generated/accepted (i.e. require
secure calls).
Format Integer
Default Value 0 (SRTP disabled)
Range 0 (SRTP disabled)1 (Allow secure calls)2 (Require secure calls)
Example sip srtp mode: 1

User Information Button and Manually Overriding Presence StatusWhen connected to the BluStar Server, the User Information section (located at the top of the Home screen) becomes a selectable button and shows the BluStar device user their current presence status that is being displayed to all of their contacts.
As the states can be aggregated from multiple sources, the BluStar device will display the state with the highest priority. For example, if a user’s BluStar device status is “Available” but the user is in a meeting as per the schedule on his/her Microsoft Exchange calendar, the user’s presence status will be displayed as “In a Meeting”.
By selecting the User Information button users have the option of manually overrid-ing their current status.
Override options include:
• Available
• Busy
• Do Not Disturb
• More...
Draft 1
16 41-001468-03 REVRC2 - 09.2013
Additional Information
Presence and Telephony Do Not Disturb SynchronizationWhen the telephony DND feature is enabled on the BluStar device (i.e. configuration parameter “dnd ui” is set to 1), the “Do Not Disturb” presence status is synchronized with the telephony DND feature. If the telephony DND feature is disabled (either through the configuration files [i.e. “dnd ui” is set to 0] or server-side by the call man-ager) the “Do Not Disturb” presence status and telephony DND feature are not syn-chronized.
When synchronized:
• Changing your presence status to “Do Not Disturb” will also turn on the telephony DND feature whereby incoming calls will automatically be rejected or (if config-ured) forwarded to a voicemail account/another number. Selecting the “Available” presence status option will turn off the telephony DND feature.
• The inverse is also applicable whereby turning on the telephony DND feature will automatically change your presence status to “Do Not Disturb”. Turning off the tele-phony DND feature will change your presence status back to “Available”. You can enable/disable the telephone DND feature by selecting the button in the Telphone Feature Controls.
When not sychronized, changing your presence status to “Do Not Disturb” will only affect your presence status. Incoming calls will not be rejected or forwarded.

Additional Information
Notes:• The More menu can alternatively be accessed by selecting the Presence applica-
tion button on the App Menu.
• Overriding the current status is only applicable until the user’s next scheduled event. For example, when the BluStar Server is aggregating status information for a user from the user’s Microsoft Exchange calendar as well as his/her BluStar device, if the user overrides his/her status from “Available” to “Do Not Disturb”, the status will automatically switch to “In a Meeting” when his/her next Exchange-cal-endar-scheduled meeting begins.
• The last 10 personalized status messages are retained under the status text field’s drop-down menu so users do not have to re-enter a commonly used message when required.
