ABOUT US
DREAM, CONSTRUCT, INNOVATE
Organised every year by a group of dedicated Civil Engineering students from IIT Bombay, Aakaar provides a platform to budding civil engineers across the country to create, innovate and learn from various aspects of Civil engineering through competitions, events, national symposium and lectures by eminent academicians, researchers and industrialists. Started in 2009, today Aakaar has gone on to become the undisputed frontrunner
among civil engineering festivals. Aakaar boasts of receiving participants from over 300 colleges spread across the nation, and attracts thousands of ambitious young aspiring engineers
every year. The festival aims at promoting a single ideology :

SYMPOSIUMNCESS is a platform for young and budding researchers of the nation to present their work in front of distinguished professors of the country, best civil engineering lead-ers and industrialists and up against the best civil engineering students! Aakaar’s Symposium is one of the largest in the country in terms of participation and has showcased the best of student research papers and presentations, with the profes-sionals in the civil engineering domain as audience.
NATIONAL CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENTS’S SYMPOSIUM

SYMPOSIUM
WHY SYMPOSIUM? 1. Encourage closer interaction between students and professors. 2. Promote research and innovation in field of engineering.3. Teach students design principles and presentation of research papers.
NCESS 2016NCESS gives an opportunity to the students to explore in various fields of Civil Engineering like Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Concrete Technology and Building Materials, Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering, Remote Sensing, Transportation, Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering. It helps to turn their innovative ideas into practice and establish facts and reach new conclusions.

COMPETITIONS
Be it intelligent structure designing, optimizing transport networks or insane quizzing contests we have had it all and much more. Aakaar plays host to a plenty of activiities, giving the opportunity to interact and compete with the brightest minds of country. It celebrates healthy relationships with corporate sponsors who visit the festival to spread awareness about the latest industrial developments.
EITHER YOU WIN OR YOU LEARN!

BRIDGE IT
CONQUER IT
Students make innovative load bearing bridges out of mere popsicle sticks which is judged on its load carrying efficiency. This time the problem statement was designed to make cable stayed bridges in which the efficiency was calculated as ratio of load supported to weight of bridge. An amazing response was seen with bridges having more than 100% efficiency securing top positions among 212 bridges registered.
Concrete technology is one of the most essential component of the construction industries. Cement being one of the main components of concrete made it unstainable. Thus a problem statement was designed for casting Geo-Polymer Concrete with 100% replacement of cement with fly ash. In a limited duration of ten hours more than 200 cubes were tested.
TOWER CRANEInspired by the actual design of tower crane and modelled on similar lines, this competition combined the intri-cacies of structural design along with the complex science of construction. In this competition, the participants were required to build a tower crane which supported two counter balancing loads at different ends of the can-tilever in accordance with the design constraints. An optimized 3-dimensional truss had to be constructed which could sustain extensive moments and loads, thus taking the concept of making planar structures to a

CIVIQ A quiz designed to measure student’s conceptual and logical thinking over tricky civil engineering problems. Held in multiple rounds 5 teams were selected after the open prelims which competed among each other.
SMART PITCHSmart Pitch Competition was a unique competition in Aakaar 2016 which was directly related to theme “ Need of the hour-Smartness ”. An exceptional initiative which offers a unique opportunity for the students to directly get involved in the development and grooming of smart cities by exchanging ideas and fostering the new integrated approaches in India.Students were invited to present their innovative ideas in the following fields. Smart CitySmart LivingSmart BuildingsSmart Transport and MobilitySmart Logistics and RetailAnd there were some online competitions also launched. One of which was a software competition by Bentley. Two Industrial Design Problems(IDPs) were respectively launched by Lafarge and Owens Corning.
9
EVENTSApart from the nerve-wrecking competitions, Aakaar also provides a fine opportunity to try your hands at professional softwares, get insight from pre-eminent industrialists and academicians through lecture series, opportunity to visit the best equipped laboratories in the country and get creative with your knowledge to have fun with total strangers.

EVENTS
WORKSHOPSAakaar aims to develop practical skills in a wide range of fields through its plethora of highly sought after workshops. This year we had 2 pre-fest workshops, ETABs and BIM(Building Information Modelling). During AAKKAR, workshops on Infraworks, Microstation and Staad Pro were conducted. All the 3 workshops conducted during the festival were free of cost.
CENEXCivil Engineering National Exhibition, CENEx provides a unique opportunity to all civil engineering students across India to showcase their research projects incorporating new technology via different models, proto-types, simulation models or samples in front of eminent professors and professionals. The cardinal aim of this event is to shower light on technological advancements by the youth of this country and provide for an oppor-tunity to showcase their innovations on a wider platform.
LECTURESWith the theme ‘Need of the hour: Smartness’, Aakaar organised many Lecture Series of different industry expertise to present smart and feasible technologies. Many renowned and noted professionals in the civil world graced the occasion and shared their valuable expertise. The following are a few of them
