Our complex healthcare environment requires a fresh approach if we are to achieve a successful patient engagement process. Meaningful Use and the Direct Project are baselines to facilitate interoperability and information exchange but lasting value and connection between patients, physicians and care-teams will only be realized once we partner to develop organic engagement. We must start with the patient though and approach them as a consumer who has a selective choice.
