Friend of Freedom Awards

Dr. Liz Johnson

Mr. Howard Davis,through the assistance of My Up, established a basketball team at Mittelstädt Elementary. The team enjoys uniforms and other assistance through his non-profit organization. In addition to his years of service to the boys at Mittlestädt with coach Pete Casserly, he is a member of the district’s Unite for Understanding Council.

Krahn Elementary School

Ms. Evelyn Green,known as Jean, quietly makes a difference in the Krahn Elementary School area. She has cared for students after school when parents were unable to find affordable child care; she is a friendly liaison in the community; and she even fosters children on a regular basis.

Mr. Ed Muniz,a volunteer at Lemm Elementary gives faithful service in support of unity and patriotism. He surprised the staff and the students with a Veteran’s Day tribute that was also used at the District’s Veterans Day event. Mr. Muniz is an active supporter of the No Place for Hate program at Lemm.

Mr. Jim Stephens,for the past two years, has been a consistent role-model for young students at Haude Elementary School. He shares his knowledge of foreign places with prekindergarten students and inspires them to love books and reading.

Mr. Juan Crawford,as a retired Air Force Captain, came to Nitsch on business and was recruited to serve as a mentor. He meets weekly to strengthen the positive character bond he has established. He also developed the “Knight” Investment Club to focus on saving for future needs.

Ms. Kati Woodward,as a committed volunteer, wrote the grant AAUW grant that resulted in the Young Women’s Summit at Klein Forest High School in October, 2007. Hundreds of girls enjoyed new perspectives on career expectations and success in the business world as a result of this remarkable grant.

Ms. Nancy Johnson,

has volunteered as a Story Reader in a Bilingual class at Greenwood Elementary School for twelve years. She now assists at Frank Elementary School. She has focused on higher level thinking skills with an interesting selection of books that helps students see connections in our global world.

Ms. Karen Robertson,a volunteer with a history of commitment, has served as a district volunteer coordinator, the elementary district music appreciation coordinator, and the Hassler campus volunteer coordinator. She has pioneered several new volunteer programs.
