7 Glass Sculptures
To Blow Your Mind
The SunDane Chihuly, the 73-year-
old glass sculptor and entrepreneur, is famous for countless glass installations like this one entitled “The Sun.” It’s made of 1,573
pieces of hand blown glass, stands 18 feet high, and took over 2,000 hours to
complete.
Fiori Di ComoFiori Di Como, another of Chihuly’s famous pieces, sits in the ceiling of the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The impressive installation consists of 2,000
glass blown pieces that collectively weigh 40,000 pounds!
Autumn Sunset Kimono
This is one in a series of four life-sized kimonos
made of intricately woven glass by artists Markow and
Norris. The others in the series are called Winter
Twilight, Spring Dawn, and Summer Zenith. Autumn
Sunset is the largest woven glass sculpture in the world!
CascadeSergio Redegalli’s 12 ton sculpture is made of 500 pieces of
6mm clear glass. They were cut and then glued into the shape of a cascading wave.
Fireworks of Glass
There’s a reason Chihuly dominates this list — he is truly a master. At 43
feet tall, his Fireworks of Glass is the largest
permanent sculpture of blown glass in the world!
V&A Chandelier Originally entitled “Ice Blue and Spring Green
Chandelier,” this hanging sculpture used to
dominate the entrance of the Victoria & Alberta
Museum in London. It was recently relocated to
Scotts Square in Singapore.
Natale di Luce in Una Cometa di Vetro (Christmas of Light in a Glass Comet)
Murano, Italy is known for its artisan glassblowers and thriving glassblowing industry. The Murano master Simone Cenedese made this
