Historicaldatainresearchinstitutionsisusedtogenerateinformationorscenariosusedfordecision- makingandplanningbyvarioussectorsandGovernmentinorderto:1. handleweatherandclimaterelatedimpactsthatcausedisastersorenvironmentalshocks;2. Improveandoptimizemanagementofwaterresourcestoprovidesustainableaccessto

freshwaterfordrinkingandhouseholduseaswellasplanningforagricultureirrigationandrenewableenergy;

3. OptimizemanagementofwaterresourcestogenerateneededPowerforthegeneralpublicandsocial- economicsectors;

4. Improveextensionservicestohealthandothersectors- e.g.managethespreadofdiseasevectorsbyrelevantsectors;

5. Developpoliciesforgreeneconomytoenhancequalityoflifeandenvironmentaladaptivecapacityforsustainabledevelopment

• Therearemorethan1.9mhistoricaldatainhardcopiesatZambiaMeteorologicalDepartmentHeadquartersandotherstationsacrossthecountry.• Thisdataisatriskofbeinglostordamagedifnotproperlyarchived• Realizingthisrisk,ZMD,withsupportfromUNDPCIEWSproject,theSouthernAfricanScienceServiceCentreforClimateChangeandAdaptiveLandManagement(SASSCAL)andotherInstitutionscameupwithaninitiativetorescueanddigitizedeterioratinghistoricaldata.
