Historically, Brunswick East was home to the bluestone quarries that provided much of the building material for Melbourne’s public
buildings, warehouses and cobblestone laneways.
The Mason is so named as a tribute to those master craftsman who worked tirelessly to extract quality natural stone from the ground; to lay the foundations for generations of residents. The
Mason presents an opportunity to secure your own piece of history, and to make your own mark on the future.
“Craftsmanship names an enduring,
basic human impulse, the desire to do a job well for its own sake.”
- Richard Sennett.

Our values are the values of those who preceded us. Victorian masons historically valued bluestone for its distinctive, timeless qualities.
The Mason is a reflection of its namesake; a nostalgic building that draws upon its heritage to deliver a timeless appeal. Fundamental to The Mason is an appreciation for quality
craftsmanship.
“We become what we behold. We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us.”
- Marshall McLuhan.

Good design always has and always will be about lines, angles and the spacial relationship between them. The Mason’s exterior draws upon those most essential architectural principles to deliver a design that celebrates lateral geometry, with a façade composed of bright, clean lines that extend across
multiple levels with the effect of tying them together.

Sensations of warmth & welcome radiate from the lobby, establishing
a framework for each & every individual space within The Mason.
Warm tones, ambient lighting & comfortable nooks establish a clear boundary between ‘their world’ &
‘your world,’ so that from the moment you set foot you know you are home.

facilitate your creativity. Carefully considered storage areas allow
you to hide & display as you please, while quality fixtures
& appliances lend a sense of effortlessness to all of your
culinary pursuits.

The purpose of artisan work was never to maximise profit, but always to enrich experience.
Sometimes, there is nothing more enriching than an afternoon spent
dappled in sunlight, surrounded by greenery & watching over the
metropolis sprawled beneath you.

Simplicity is never simple. The minimalism of each bathroom is a crafty display of calculated simplicity, underneath which lies a knack for careful spatial design & eye for detail. The brilliance of the design is best displayed where it is least noticed; in the way your movements through the space flow without hindrance & in the ease with
which you discover that everything has its rightful place.

Lygon Street is the home of Little Italy, but it is also the cornerstone of Melbourne’s vibrant cultural melting pot.
On the same street where you’ll find the World’s Best Margherita (400 Grandi), you’ll also find grunge-chic bars showcasing local
artists (Mr Wilkinson), chocolate makers that would induce even a Belgian palate (Monsieur Truffe), and Melbourne’s foremost
location for Japanese saké (Kumo Izakaya).
First-time visitors to Melbourne seek out Lygon Street as the stretch upon which
the city’s famous café culture was born.

There’s a fine line between breakfast and dessert, and East Elevation is

you’ll find the HQ of Melbourne’s finest
artisan chocolate makers, who’ll help you discover just what the cacao bean is capable of. In short,
it ends in delight.
