UCIGranFondoWorldSeries(UCIGFWS)

EventOverviewTheBlueMountainsGranFondo&TimeTrial(June14th&16th,2018)willbethesoleCanadianqualifiereventsforthe2018UCIGranFondoWorldSeries.ThisyearwehavechangedtheeventnametoTheBlueMountainsGranFondofromtheGreyCountyRoadRaceforthefollowingreasons:

• TobetteralignwithUCIGranFondoWorldSeries• WearealreadyfollowingtherulesformatandspiritofaGranFondo• TheeventstartsandendsinTheTownofTheBlueMountains• WeareintroducingaMedioFondo,75kmdistancerouteforthosewhowanttoparticipateinashorterdistance

In2011theUCIcreatedtheUCIGFWS(rebrandedin2016fromtheUWCT–UCIWorldCyclingTour)asaseriesofUCI-sanctionedracesheldallovertheworld.Feedingintothe2018GranFondoWorldChampionshipsthatarebeingheldinformAug30-Sept2ndinVarese,Italy,thereareTwenty-onequalifiereventsupfromfourteenin2016.Inthequalifiereventsthetop25%fromeachagegroupwillqualifyfortheAmateurWorldChampionships,wherethechampionswillbeawardedwiththecovetedrainbowjersey.

• Nolicense.Somenationalfederationsrequireadaylicensewhichcanbeboughton-site.Certaincountriesalsorequireamedicalcertificate.

• Amateurlicense• Masterlicense• CyclingforAlllicense• Elitelicensewithexceptionof:

o AnyriderwhohasduringthecurrentyearbeenamemberofateamregisteredwiththeUCI.o AnyriderwhohastakenpartinaWorldChampionships,theOlympicGames,ContinentalGames,RegionalGames,

theCommonwealthGames,oraWorldCupduringthecurrentyear.o AnyriderwhohasscoredUCIpointsintheyearoftheWorldChampionships.

Afterqualification,andinordertoparticipateintheWorldChampionships,ridersmusthaveanationalMasters/Amateur/Cyclingforall/EliteannuallicensefromaUCIaffiliatednationalfederationandcomplywiththeconditionsasmentionedaboveforEliteriders.Aday-licensewillnolongerbeacceptedfortheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionships.

Age groups:

Theeventmustprovideresultsforthefollowing8differentagegroups,forbothwomenandmen:

• 19-34y• 35-39y• 40-44y• 45-49y• 50-54y• 55-59y• 60-64y• +65y

Agegroupsaredefinedbytherider'sageonDecember31stoftheyearoftherespectiveWorldChampionships.

Aqualifiereventmayalsoorganizeadditionalagecategories(70-74,75-79,etc.).Shouldmorethan6ridersregisterforanyoftheseadditionalagegroups,specificqualificationfortheWorldChampionshipswillalsobegrantedwithinthegivenagecategory.AttheWorldChampionships,anadditionalrainbowjerseyandmedalswillonlybeawardedtothewinnersofsuchcategoriesifmorethan6ridersregisterforthegivenrace.

Granting of participation rights for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships

EachUGFWSeventwillgrantparticipationrightsfortheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionships,fortheGranFondoand/orTimeTrialevents.Basedontheresultsofeachrace,athletesrankedwithinthetop25%ofeachagegroupwillbeawardedwithaguaranteedentrytotheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionshipsandbeabletoracefortheWorldChampiontitle.Thefirstthreefinisherswithinthe8officialagecategorieslistedabovewillalwaysqualifydirectlyfortheWorldChampionships,independentlyofthenumberofstartersinthatagegroup.Ridersmustfinishtheracetobequalified.The25%iscalculatedbasedonthenumberofstarters,notonthenumberofpreregisteredridersorridersfinishingtherace.ThewinnersofthequalificationslotswillbeannouncedontheUGFWSwebsiteandwillbeinvitedbye-mail.

QualificationfortheGranFondoRoadRaceand/orTimeTrialeventswillbegrantedasfollows:

• QualifiereventshostingonlyaroadracewillgrantparticipationrightsforboththeUCIGranFondoWorldChampionshipsandUCIGranFondoWorldChampionshipsTimeTrial.

• QualifiereventshostingaseparatetimetrialandroadracewillgranttheparticipationrightsfortheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionshipsTimeTrialinthetimetrialqualifierandfortheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionshipsintheroadracequalifier.

• QualifiereventshostingasingletimetrialwillonlygrantparticipationrightsfortheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionshipsTimeTrial.

• Qualifiereventsholdingastagerace(timetrialand2-dayroadrace)willgranttheparticipationrightsfortheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionshipsTimeTrialinthetimetrialqualifierandfortheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionshipsduringeachdayoftheroadrace.

Allriders(whetherlicenseholdersornot)completingthesamedistanceinaqualifiereventareofficiallyconsideredasparticipantsintheUCIGranFondoWorldSeries,i.e.theymustbepartofthesamerankinglist,independentlyofthewaveinwhichtheystarted.

Inaddition,riderswhoparticipateinandfinish3qualifiereventsduringtheseasonwillalsogetawildcardtickettotheWorldChampionshipsbycompletingeachraceregardlessoftheirfinishingposition.Allconcernedridersmustcontactinfo@ucigranfondoworldseries.comtorequestawildcard.

TheWorldChampionsfromAlbi2017areautomaticallyqualifiedforthe2018WorldChampionships.ThisruleisvalidforbothTimeTrialandRoadRace,andtheWorldChampionscanregisterforbothevents.SilverandbronzemedalwinnersmustqualifyagainthroughtheUGFWS.

RegistrationsfortheWorldChampionshipsareonlypossibleviatheregistrationformontheofficialwebsiteoftheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionships.

NEWin2018:TheUCIGranfondoWorldSerieswon'tdoarecallanymoretoreplacetheslotsforWorldsthatwerenottakenbythefirst25%.Thisrecallwasalreadyremovedforthemen'sagegroups40-54lastyearandwilltotallyberemovedforallagegroupsin2018!

• PerCCArule1.3.031N)AtalltimeswhenparticipatinginorpreparingforaneventheldinCanada,alllicenseeswhoaremountedonabicycleshallwearasecurelyfastenedhelmetthatmeetsarecognizedcyclingstandardforthespecificdiscipline.Ridersshallprovidedocumentedproofofthis,suchasamanufacturer'slabel,uponrequestbyeventofficials.

• Medicalcertificate:ToconfirmthephysicalcapabilityofacyclisttotakepartinaUGFWSbikerace,theorganizerrequiresoneof

thefollowingguarantees:1. Eitherthattheparticipantholdsalicense(whichisissuedonpresentationofamedicalcertificatetotheeffectthatthere

isnomedicalreasonwhytheparticipantshouldbeunabletopracticecycling)issuedbyanationalcyclingfederationaffiliatedtotheUCI

2. Orthattheparticipantholdsamedicalcertificatetotheeffectthatthereisnomedicalreasonwhytheparticipantshouldbeunabletopracticecycling,whichhasbeenissuedbyadoctor

3. Orthattheparticipantatteststo(andsigns)thefactthatheisinperfecthealthandfitforthephysicaleffortrequiredforsuchacyclingrace,UGFWSdeclinesallliabilityifhealthproblemsareexperiencedduringtheevent.AsthegoodhealthofcyclistsisoneoftheoverridingconcernsoftheUCI,wepreferoptionsa)andb)above.

4. DuringtheUCIGranFondoWorldChampionships,onlyriderswithanationalyearlicenseareallowed,soamedicalcertificateisnotnecessary.

• Accidentandthird-partyliabilityinsurance:UGFWSorganizingeventsassurethatallcyclistswhowishtotakepartinaneventformingpartoftheUGFWSholdaccidentinsuranceandthird-partyliabilityinsurance.Tofacilitateaccesstoitsevent,inparticularforcycliststravellingfromforeigncountries,theorganizerprovidesthepossibilityforallparticipantstotakeoutone-dayinsurance.

SafetyonthecourseSafetyplan:TheeventEmergencyActionPlanhasbeenpreparedbyOdysseyMedicalIdentificationofdangerpoints:TheorganizertakescaretoindicateallthedangerpointsonthecourseFollowingvehicles:Forsportingfairnessandtoavoidpossibleproblems,riderswillbeeliminatedimmediatelyiftheyarecaughtbenefitingfromvehicularassistancefromathirdpartynotbelongingtotheorganization.
