“Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
- Special Olympics Athlete Oath
2018 ANNUAL REPORT
A Word from Athlete Leader,Cassie DavidsonFor a long time, people with disabilities have been picked on and not treated nicely. Sometimes, people treat us with sympathy or pity, or make fun of us. Special Olympics has helped me make friends and have a great life.
My sister, Tammy, and I have been involved with Special Olympics Colorado as athletes, ambassadors, and leaders for almost 25 years. When I first started competing, I was very shy. I was nervous to talk to people and didn’t have many friends. Special Olympics Colorado changed my whole life and has meant so much to me. I have come
a long way from that shy girl who refused to compete in front of any audience. I have given speeches at State Games, competed at two World Games, have a great job and live independently.
On behalf of the 16,975 Special Olympics Colorado athletes, I want to thank you. My dream is to have a welcoming community where people with intellectual disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else.

Our GoalEnd discrimination against individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Our Mission
To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giv-ing them continuing opportunities to develop physi-cal fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
I have learned two main things from working with athletes. One is their
perseverance. No matter what the disability, no matter what’s going on, you can still
do it. I would say the next thing probably the biggest thing I’ve learned, is no matter
what’s going on in life, no matter how hard the trial, no matter what life has given
you, you can be happy.
