This 2 day course offers a review of essential principals and strategies of leadership to promote self
confidence in the current healthcare system.
Learner Outcome: Participants will be able to demonstrate the use of principals and strategies con-
sistent with the defined competencies of nurse leaders
Objectives:
Select communication and relationship building strategies appropriate for nurse leaders
Apply leadership theory and strategies to healthcare
Explain ethical theories and principles that guide nurse leader decision making
Apply business skills to healthcare systems
Describe the impact of the environment on leadership in health systems
Karen Stefaniak, PhD, RN, NEA-BC is an adjunct assistant professor
at University of Kentucky College of Nursing, retired from UK Albert B.
Chandler Hospital after 23 years in nursing leadership. For several years,
she has taught nurse leadership courses around Kentucky, focusing on
the latest skills and strategies for successful leadership in healthcare.
Tonya Page, MHA, MSN, RN , NEA-BC, VHA-CM, is the Chief
Nurse for Acute Care at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexing-
ton Kentucky. Tonya has 25 years of nursing experience, which 15 of
those years working in nursing management and leadership. Tonya is ac-
tively involved in strategic planning and business planning.
Nora Warshawsky, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, CNE, FAAN is an Associate
Professor at the University of Kentucky, College of Nursing. She draws on
her 25 years of clinical experience in nursing leadership and quality
management. She publishes and speaks on the influence of the organiza-
tional context on nurse managers’ practice.

In order to receive credit for this conference, participants will complete the live CNE activity and online evaluation form. Certificates may be printed once the

Refund/ Cancellation Policy
A full refund, less a $25 processing fee, will be issued for all cancellations received or postmarked at least one week prior to the course date. No refunds are
issued thereafter. Cancellations received within 7 days of the course are not eligible for a refund. UK College of Nursing Continuing Education reserves the
right to cancel a course when circumstances are warranted. In such a case, a full refund will be issued. UK College of Nursing is not responsible for hotel, plane,
car, or other such fees.

Parking for the event will be available in Pavilion A UK Medical Center Parking Garage. Parking vouchers will be provided at registration. A map of the venue
and parking will be emailed to registrants prior to the conference
