AIChEWesternRegionalConference2017

The AIChE Western Regional Student Conference offers students the opportunity to network with

professionals from industry and academia, explore potential career paths, and expand their

knowledge of the chemical engineering ,ield. Attendees meet other students from their region to

share experiences and network.

Students present cutting-edge research in the Regional Student Paper Competition, participate in

educational workshops that can in,luence their career options, and compete at the Regional Chem-E-

Car Competition and Regional ChemE Jeopardy Competition. The University of California San Diego

has the honor of hosting the conference for the 2016-2017 academic year.

There will be a multitude of events promoting the professional development as well as the social

network of chemical engineers. AIChE chapters have attended and competed in this conference eve-

ry year with the goal of exercising their developed skills in mechanical and chemical design.

We plan to have over 300 students from 14 schools attend the conference. They will apply their en-

gineering knowledge in the various competitions as well as learn more about the growing industry.

ConferenceEvents

Chem-E-CarCompetition

The premise of the competition requires students to design and develop a miniature-sized car that

runs solely on a chemical energy source. The challenging aspect is that the car will be required to

carry a given water load over a speci,ied distance and stop within close range of the ,inish line. The

most successful designs will advance to the National Competition.

ResearchPaperCompetition

The Student Paper Competition offers valuable, real-world experience for the participating under-

graduate students. It showcases their passions and interests in the ,ield they are studying. Presenta-

tions often focus on recent advances in some branch of chemical engineering, original research, or

plant design.

JeopardyCompetition

A fun competition to break the ice for the students while testing their knowledge. The winner of the

competition will be invited to represent the region at the Annual Student Conference.

Workshops

Workshops will be hosted by companies or the participating schools throughout the conference. The

topics will revolve around professional development, ethical engineering, and applied engineering.

BanquetandSpeakers

During the closing ceremony of the conference, professionals in the industry or academia will give

20-30 minute presentations on their experiences and their respective ,ield. This is an opportunity

for these speakers to promote relevant issues in the chemical engineering ,ield, or showcase their

own work or company.

Food will be provided for all attendees and the banquet will also be an opportunity for the students

to mingle and network with each other.

Social

A fun social event for students to relax and personally network with each other. Students from dif-

ferent universities can enjoy their time with one another over food, music, and games.

CompanyShowcase

At the company showcase, students are exposed and given advice on the various career opportuni-

ties available in the chemical engineering ,ield. Companies will give a 10-15 minute introduction of

their company. As one can see, this is a great opportunity for companies to promote their research

and current technological developments.

Company Representative Speaks About Their Company During the Banquet

One Platinum sponsor may speak about their company during the Banquet. The representative will

have the full attention of the students, university representatives, and other fellow industry repre-

sentatives.

Company Representative Present Awards for Competition

Company representatives of Platinum sponsorship level may present the awards for the 1st, 2nd,

and 3rd place winners for any competition. Companies may choose to give additional prizes.

Honored at Opening & Closing Ceremonies

Company representatives of Platinum or Gold sponsorship level will be mentioned and honored for

their contribution to the conference in the speeches given at both the opening & closing ceremonies.

Marketed Materials Included in Gift Bags

On advertisement found through UCSD Career Services Center, TESC newsletters, other university

school prints, and any media coverage the Platinum sponsors will have a larger logo than the Gold

sponsors. Both Platinum and Gold sponsors may add one piece of merchandise to the gift bags hand-

ed out to students.

Company Logo and Hotlink Prominently Featured on the Conference Website

Company logo will be the same size for Silver, Gold, and Platinum sponsors. Each picture of the logo

will be a hotlink to the company website.

Receive a Resume Book of Attendees

Bronze level or higher sponsorships will receive a resume book comprised of the conference at-

tendees’ resumes. The book will be e-mailed to the company representative on April 8th, 2017. Rep-

resentatives may contact any of the attendees before the day of the conference.

Company Representatives May Attend the Company Showcase

Platinum sponsors can have up to two tables and four representatives. Gold sponsors can have up to

two tables and three representatives. Silver sponsors can have one table and up to two representa-

tives. Bronze sponsors can have one table and up to one representative.

Logo Visibility on All Conference Prints (including T-shirts, Brochures)

For all prints, Platinum sponsors will have the largest logo size. The Gold sponsors will have a small-

er logo size than the Platinum’s, but larger than the Silver sponsors’ logos.

Bronze and Personal sponsors will not have a logo on the conference print. The company name will

be mentioned on Conference Program and the t-shirts.
