NEWS UPDATE 2016 SPECIAL CHRISTMAS EDITION
Good morning special guests, parents, carers, staff and boys and girls.
Is this an ordinary assembly? Not at all, as today we acknowledge students’ outstanding success in learning, leadership and extra-curricular activities.
Throughout 2016, Guildford PS teachers have come to know students and how they learn. Like-wise, students understand the high expectations of their teachers, what good work looks like as opposed to outstanding work and work that needs more effort.
Firstly, let me congratulate the students for working together to make 2016 a year that truly reflects what GPS is about. There are four words that reflect what learning at Guildford PS is about.
1. Citizenship - consistently looking out to support others, setting a good example, doing things that help make GPS a safe, supportive and respectful place to learn.
2. Collaborative Thinking - working with others to create new and improved ways of doing things.
3. Voice - strengthening and building your own thoughts and opinions.
4. Leadership - using your skills and energy to assist other people to achieve new goals or targets.
If you have been sent to me with excellent work this year, raise your hand. I encourage parents, carers and teachers to look around at these students who consistently work at improving their skills and knowledge. I am truly a very fortunate individual having students visit me to share their learning. I usually ask “What are you learning about?” Usually we engage in a conversation about their work and what they have learned. My final question is usually “What’s another way you could have done this?” I thank students for being the heart of the school, for working hard to improve yourself.
Secondly, it is important to understand that parents and carers send their children to school every day expecting them to improve their literacy and numeracy skills. Expecting their child to be an effective communicator, a good friend, organised, focused and committed. Your ongoing support and encouragement is highly valued!
To Guildford PS teachers. If students are the heart of the school, I believe that makes teachers the soul of the school. Our teachers consistently plan and collaborate on effective learning experiences. They know their students and how they best learn. They build trust and ensure students fit and adjust. Our teachers are committed to providing a safe, supportive and challenging learning environment & they ensure that the needs of all students are met with rich classroom experiences. I congratulate teachers on your 2016 class and personal achievements.
Here are some facts about 2016 GPS programs that provided students with options to further develop their academic, social, spiritual and physical growth.

carnivals Education week, Multicultural Day, Koomurri Indigenous experience, Olympic Games day and Book Fair made August our biggest month of the 2016. But a program of absolute significance was Peer Support which developed enormous leadership skills in Year 6 students who collaborated on and delivered high quality lessons providing opportunities for all students to participate, developing their self-confidence, sense of belonging, communication skills and development of new friendships. Year 6 students have certainly left a legacy of effective leadership and creative problem solving.
I would also like to acknowledge two teaching staff who will leave Guildford PS at the end of 2016 to take up positions at their respective new schools.
Mr Hanna was successful in being appointed as Deputy Principal Instructional Leader at Mount Annan PS for the next two years. Miss Ghassibe was successful in being permanently appointed as Assistant Principal at Mount Pritchard East PS. The contribution and passion that Mr Hanna and Miss Ghassibe exercise daily is remarkable. We wish both the best in their future roles.
Finally, to all students, staff, parents and carers thank you for your contribution this year, thank you for making Guildford PS a great school to be a member of. Merry Christmas to all! Have a safe & adventurous holiday.
Regards, Chris Haberecht

On the 8th of December, students who have earned 30+ Guildford Stars participated in the Bush Tucker BBQ. We had Kangaroo, Crocodile and Calamari meat, with soft buns and fresh cordial. There were also delicious potato fillets for vegetarians.
They are committed to providing a sustainable product that promotes a healthy lifestyle as well as encourages all to have "Just a Taste" of what indigenous Aboriginal food has to offer.
We sincerely thank Alison and Fred from the Bush Tucker program for this wonderful experience.
