Pastor David’s Ponderings:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your
Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Letting our light shine in a dark world is what we are all called to do. As we have begun
our study in the Sermon of the Mount, we are being called to a higher standard! I have
never been more excited to preach this series “Standards of the Master”. No greater privi-
lege than to preach the words of our Lord. May we all be changed by this series! We have
a team headed for Alaska at the end of the month. This team will be working in the city of
Bethel to help build new dorms and class rooms for a Seminary there. We need to all be in
prayer as part of our family heads north to be on mission! We have a busy summer coming
up, so let’s all give our best and have a great time doing it. Sandy and I are so thankful for
each and every one of you. We have never been more at peace than right here in Todd,
serving and living with the South Fork Church family! We love you all!
Serving Him Together,
David
Father's Day Poem God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight, The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it...

STUDENT PASTOR PONDERING
This afternoon I looked out across the street and saw David in his garden tending to his crops. He has prepared the land and taken great care to what he has planted. I hope that he receives an abundance for his toil. Many of you know that the ground had to be prepared and tilled before the seeds were sown. This reminds me of the “parable of the soils” that Jesus had taught to the multitudes in Matthew 13. One thing we can notice about all of the soils mentioned (the road, the rocky soil, the thorny soil, and the good soil) is that the seed was thrown on all of the soils. Now, this does not make sense to our farming minds, but Jesus was using this analogy to speak about God’s word and its place in our hearts. The seed represents God’s word and the soils represent our hearts. One heart soil was hard and did not receive God’s Word. Another heart soil receives the Word, but there is no root nor growth and so when pressures and persecutions arise, this heart fades and withers away. Another heart soil hears the Word, but the things of the world are more important than the Word, therefore it does not bear fruit. The fourth and final soil is good soil, it receives the Word, takes the necessary precautions, and makes the necessary preparations to allow the word to take root and bear fruit. Jesus says in John 15:8, “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.” Allowing God’s word to take root and bear fruit in our lives is what we were created and redeemed for. What is your response to God’s word? Which soil would your heart represent if all was laid bare before God? Get into God’s word today and allow it to change your life.
In Christ,
Lee
