A Message From the Executive DirectorPHILANTHROPY IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOOD AND GREAT HEALTH CARE.
Every week, premature babies are saved, elderly patients comforted, bones mended, illnesses diagnosed and lives saved—thanks in part to the generous philanthropy of individuals and corporations in our caring communities. Imagine if area families and loved ones didn’t have the facilities, technology or skilled doctors to turn to at Ridgeview Medical Center.
Philanthropy makes a difference. The Center for Women & Children, Ridgeview Heart Center and Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home are amazing examples—all largely supported through philanthropy. Without these significant facilities, we couldn’t enhance the lives of those entering our world or those leaving it.
The Foundation’s support for Ridgeview’s success relies upon:
• Growing annual and capital support from the southwest metro communities;• Establishing and growing an unrestricted endowment; and• Engaging patients, their families and those who anticipate the need for the
greater good of all into philanthropic vision.
We’re grateful for individuals and businesses making outright major gifts and our Board members for their expert leadership. They all appreciate the value of having excellent patient care close to home and want others to receive the same—today and in the future.
Our hope, on behalf of the people we serve in this challenging capacity, is to enhance the care of patients, provide technology and facilities for dedicated staff, and serve as strong stewards of our donors’ contributions. The opportunity is now. Help us form a promise for the future that will benefit ongoing generations of patients and area residents.
What’s your vision? No matter what it is and what capacity you can give, we provide the gateway to help you realize it. Consider the potential. Your contributions connect you to saving lives—and enhancing the best care for every patient every day.
With gratitude,
Doug Stasek Executive Director, Ridgeview Foundation
Doug Stasek
P.S. Please consider inviting your friends and family to join us for the Taste of the Ridgeview Region, which starts at 5 p.m., followed by the Live Auction. Tickets will be available at the door.

Expect the unexpected—it’s what patients rave about. Ridgeview Medical Center is dedicated to the quality of the patient experience—that it should begin and end with the knowledge that patients’ needs come fi rst. The commitment shows.
With national recognition, high consumer satisfaction rankings and distinctions that most hospitals double Ridgeview’s size earn, there’s no question quality and safety are the cornerstones of Ridgeview Medical Center.
“You don’t have to be the biggest to be the best,” says Ridgeview Foundation Board member and former patient Tim Foster of Wayzata, Minn. “The think-I-can attitude and size of heart brings an uncommon health care experience to people like me.”
Patients put their trust in Ridgeview’s medical expertise, but what touches them is the attention and empathy that come with diagnosis and treatment. Each patient or family member’s story is unique, but they almost always have one thing in common: a focus on personal interaction.
That’s the difference that sets Ridgeview apart—the unparalleled experience best shared through patient stories. Some are survivor stories. Some are stories of hope. Each individual story inspires the staff at Ridgeview to continue to provide the best care to every patient, every day.
Ridgeview delivers an uncommon health care experience ... daily.
4
Striving to be the premier health care service in the region.
Robert Stevens, president and CEO of Ridgeview Medical Center, stands beside the Siemens 128-slice CT Scanner, made possible by a philanthropic gift. Ridgeview was the fi rst hospital statewide to offer this leading-edge technology to patients.
Robert Stevens is doing something revolutionary, radical and maybe even impossible. He is attracting a following of patients and doctors that believe the “E” in CEO may stand for empathy and entrepreneurship.
Stevens, a down-to-earth seasoned leader, has demonstrated over the last 15 years that courage and contemplative risk does advance a medical center. It’s a professional win that aligns with why he chose health care administration: to help people. “I take the growth of Ridgeview seriously,” Stevens says. “This is a community asset. We want to be good stewards yet step it up for positive change.”
Guiding an independent, nonprofi t organization comes with challenges, but Stevens says he appreciates the agility that Ridgeview fosters. “We can do things faster. We can be more nimble. We can strive to reach the top—and become the premier health care source for our marketplace.”
Helping better the lives of women and children with the Center for Women & Children; transforming end-of-life care with the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home in Chaska; caring for fragile infants in the Neonatal Care Unit; bringing a whole new level of cardiovascular care with the Minneapolis Heart Institute® at Ridgeview Heart Center—all quantum leaps in Stevens’ tenure that point to the future.
The creativity and innovation guiding Ridgeview’s destiny seem to be the apparent wind that Stevens, also a sailing enthusiast, thrives on. But turning ideas into reality wouldn’t happen without philanthropists that share the vision. “Supporting Ridgeview Foundation gives us the edge—that critical margin—that helps us go from good to great,” Stevens explains.
Though Ridgeview has won more recognition awards than most hospitals, according to Stevens, it’s evident that the organization hasn’t lost sight of the one reason it exists: individualized patient care. Stevens says visionaries who can see Ridgeview’s future, or at least experience it fi rst-hand, know their support will impact the health and lives of many.
With Stevens’ ability to lead and serve as the moral compass of the organization, Ridgeview will continue to stand for empathy and entrepreneurship—health care at its best.

Silent Auction: Electronic Bidding
HOW TO BID
Bidding is fun and simple! When you are ready to place a bid, simply enter the bidder number that is located on your name badge to log in to a tablet or a kiosk. Once you are logged in, you can place a bid for the minimum amount required or you can place a maximum bid (see Bidding Strategy below). Once your bid has been placed, you will immediately be notified on the device if you are the winning bidder or if you have been outbid by another bidder’s maximum bid.
BIDDING STRATEGY
You have the opportunity to bid two different ways. You can bid the traditional way by increasing the bid by the minimum amount, or you can set a maximum bid. When you place a maximum bid, the system bids for you against other bidders until your maximum bid is reached. Once your maximum bid has been exceeded, you are no longer bidding on that item until you place a new bid. This option is ideal for guests who’d like to place a single bid on an item and not worry about checking back to see if they are still the top bidder.
BIDDING LOCATIONS
There are three locations where you can place a bid.
1) Bidsheet TabletsThese tablets are located in front of each item in the silent auction area and replace the traditional paper bidsheet.
2) Bidding KiosksAt several locations in the tent there are bidding kiosks. At a kiosk, a bidder will be able to check the status of all their bids, increase their bids if they’ve been outbid, browse the entire auction catalog and place new bids, or make a donation.
3) SmartBid Smartphone (see next page)Guests are able to register their personal smartphones and use them to browse, shop and receive updates from the auction, all without having to download an app!
25
Silent Auction: Electronic Bidding (continued)SMARTBID SIGN-UP & FEATURES
1) Register your phone for bidding capability. Either locate an auction kiosk in the silent auction area or visit the Guest Services table in the registration area.
2) Log into the kiosk using your bidder number and tap the smartphone sign-up button on the left side of the screen.
3) Follow the on-screen instructions and provide your smartphone number where indicated.
4) In about a minute, you’ll receive a text message. Click on the link in the message and a web browser will open on your phone with the login/confirmation page.
5) Upon confirmation of login, you will be directed to the SmartBid home page.
Place a BidFrom your phone you will be able to browse the silent auction by category and place a bid on any item. Simply click the “Browse Auction” icon from the SmartBid home page and find the item you’d like to bid on.
Receive Outbid NotificationsIf another bidder outbids you on an item, you will receive a text message notifying you that you’ve been outbid. In that message will be a link directing you to the item you’ve been outbid on, and you will be able to place a new bid if you desire.
View the Status of Your BidsQuickly view the status of bids you’ve placed all together by clicking the “My Bids” icon. If your bid is no longer winning, you can simply click on that item to place a new bid.
Make a DonationAt any point throughout the evening, you have the opportunity to make a donation. Simply click “Make a Donation” on the SmartBid home page and select the amount you’d like to donate.

CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP
Through corporate partnerships, we seek to facilitate relationships that benefit both Ridgeview and your company. We work with businesses—large and small—to engage employees and customers to support Ridgeview. Partnerships can include financial support, event sponsorships, cause marketing and in-kind donations that support program areas with the greatest need. Or you may align your gift with a specific program that supports your company’s mission. We also work with our corporate partners to engage their employees in various volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
Ridgeview Foundation promotes philanthropy and builds relationships to support Ridgeview Medical Center’s mission to enhance the lifelong health of the people we serve with a culture that nurtures the whole person—mind, body and spirit. Our corporate partners have made a tremendous impact and are critical to the patient-centered care Ridgeview provides.
Throughout the year, Ridgeview Foundation conducts three premier, high-profile events: the Golf & Taste Celebration, Ridgeview Under the Harvest Moon and Achieving a Healthy Balance. These events are attended by community leaders, business leaders, area professionals, residents of our region and civic organization members.

the communities served by Ridgeview Medical Center and Ridgeview Clinics. Founder’s Society members make individual commitments of $10,000 or greater, which can be paid at one time or through a payment program over a period of years.
There are almost 400 Founder’s Society members who cumulatively have gifted or committed more than $26 million and have nearly $2.2 million in outstanding pledges. Each year, the Founder’s Society will work to support the strategic direction of Ridgeview. The generous gifts help provide the critical margin that enables Ridgeview to be of special service to you, your family and your community.
How to Become a MemberGifts may be made in the form of cash, publicly traded securities, appreciated property and, if appropriate, in-kind gifts. Most often, naming opportunities will exist at various levels within each campaign. Commitments can be paid over a period of years or in a one-time gift.

How to Become a MemberIt is important to remember that planned giving comes in all forms and sizes. Select the method that works best for you with the realization that, over time, every gift can make a substantial difference. If you would like to discuss philanthropic opportunities through your estate, please call Ridgeview Foundation. PHYSICIAN PHILANTHROPY COUNCIL
The Physician Philanthropy Council works diligently to maximize the power of grateful patient philanthropy and is an essential part in guiding Ridgeview’s Grateful Patient Program. This program provides patients with an opportunity to show gratitude to the physician, nurse or other caregiver who played a special role in their care by sharing their story or making a donation in honor of their caregiver.
Why is this important to Ridgeview? A gift in honor of a caregiver not only rec-ognizes the exemplary work of Ridgeview’s physicians, nurses and other staff, but it helps enhance the outstanding level of care the community has come to expect from Ridgeview Medical Center. Contributions help Ridgeview provide the highest-quality care in the region by attracting exceptional physicians, investing in state-of-the-art equipment, partnering with innovative businesses and so much more.
The Physician Philanthropy Council members also serve as champions and role models to other Ridgeview Medical Center and affiliated physicians and are essen-tial in establishing philanthropy as a central principle of the Ridgeview mission.

Compassionate care: ‘It’s what we do here’Ridgeview has a long history of being recognized for providing the highest quality of care … and for doing so with kindness, compassion and intuition to every patient and family member, even in the most unexpected situations.
Ann McKinnon lives in North Carolina, so when she received a call from Ridgeview in November 2014 saying her 65-year-old dad, Doug, was at the hospital after being found driving erratically in Norwood Young America, she was more than concerned.
Not only was she living far away in North Carolina, but her dad was the sole caregiver for her developmentally disabled and handicapped brother, Steven. She had no other family in Minnesota to comfort her brother while her dad was being treated at Ridgeview for vascular dementia and multiple strokes.
When Doug arrived via Ridgeview Ambulance with Steven, the Emergency Department staff assessed the situation. They quickly determined that Steven should not be separated from his dad. They realized the best support for Doug, as he received inpatient care, was to reassure him that his son Steven was right alongside him, just like he always was.
One of Doug’s nurses, Beth Stender, RN, CICU, explains: “We typically don’t have two patients in a room, but Doug and Steven needed each other. We just had to make it work.”
While his physicians and nurses took care of Doug, Beth helped Steven feel comfortable and settle into a chair right next to his dad’s bedside. She also had his clothes laundered and found DVDs for him to watch. The nursing team continued to watch over Steven, and spent time helping him relax with movies and be less anxious so he would eat and rest.

Miles away, Ann says this compassionate care was such a comfort to her. “It was difficult being so far away, but the doctors and nurses helped me navigate this situation. It was a blessing knowing they were both being cared for so well.”
Ann was so appreciative that she wrote an email to Robert Stevens, Ridgeview president and CEO, before Thanksgiving. She wanted to express her thanks to everyone who went above and beyond for her family, and to tell them how much it meant to her. She did not expect to hear back from Ridgeview nor its CEO, but did so almost immediately. She summed up his response: “That’s what we do here.”
On a recent trip back to Minnesota, Ann had the opportunity to personally thank the Ridgeview nurses and staff who cared for her dad and brother.
Ann urges others to support the work done at Ridgeview. “Giving to Ridgeview can create more experiences like mine. You are supporting folks who, like my dad, didn’t have resources to pay for medical care. And it makes sure Ridgeview is here for your family, too.”

Ridgeview opens new Wound & Hyperbaric Healing Center
INCLUDES TWO HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY CHAMBERS
More than 8 million people in the U.S. suffer from chronic wounds of which healing has been impeded by such diseases and conditions as diabetes, obesity, aging and the late effects of radiation therapy.
Ridgeview has partnered with Healogics, Inc. to bring expanded wound healing services—including two, state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers—to the growing number of patients and area residents who are suffering from chronic or complex wounds. Through its new Wound & Hyperbaric Healing Center—located in the hospital building on Ridgeview’s Waconia campus—patients in the southwest metro can now receive advanced wound treatment without traveling far from home or work.
People who are likely to benefit from Ridgeview’s comprehensive Wound Center services and clinical expertise include those suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, and radiation injuries to soft tissue and bone, or those with compromised skin grafts or wounds that haven’t healed within 30 days. These types of wounds can be debilitating, painful and lower a patient’s quality of life.
“We are pleased to expand our wound care services and bring improved local access to nationally recognized, best-practice wound care protocols to our patients and communities,” said Mike Phelps, chief operating officer, Ridgeview Medical Center. “The addition of two hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers—in Waconia—is especially exciting for patients who previously had to travel up to 30 miles or more to receive these services.
“Ridgeview also greatly appreciates the philanthropic support of the Waconia Rotary, which generously donated $5,000 to help fund the purchase of our hyperbaric chambers,” Phelps added. “We are grateful for the Rotary’s continued support of our commitment to providing the best care, technology and patient experience.”
42
HOW HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY IMPROVES HEALING
During hyperbaric therapy, patients are surrounded by and breathe pure oxygen at increased atmospheric pressure. Patients with chronic wounds and specific injuries are treated within a hyperbaric chamber for 90 to 120 minutes per day, five days per week, for up to 40 days. This promotes wound healing by stimulating small blood vessel growth, promoting new skin growth, fighting infection and more.
Ridgeview’s Wound & Hyperbaric Healing Center is part of the Healogics national network of academic medical centers, hospitals and thousands of professionals committed to advancing wound healing by creating, sharing, and activating wound prevention and care expertise.
