As President I welcome everybody to the Parndana
Agricultural, Horticultural and Floricultural Show for 2013.
I am very honoured to be the President for the third
year in a row and it is my pleasure to invite you all to
attend this year’s show.
The theme this year is “The 54th Annual Parndana Show
Fun and Games” so we have arranged to have large
board games for people to relive their childhood and
play their favourite games. After the success of last
years event it is back so get your team together for the
young farmers challenge, there is a great cash prize for
the winning team. I would like to thank the Next
Generation Group for their support with this event.
I encourage you all to participate in the show in some
way, whether it is by helping run the show, by having a
stall, entering exhibits or just attending and having a
good time. This year we have some great extra cash for
prizes in most sections.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all
committee members for all that they have done in
helping to bring this show to life. It takes an incredible
amount of work to bring together a show even if it is a
small one like Parndana.
Also I would like to thank all sponsors of the show for this
year. Without them this show would have been
incredibly hard to put together. So thank you and I
hope that all people who attend our show will support
the people who supported us.
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the
passing of one of our life members in the past year Mr J
Bowden, our thoughts go out to the family. I would like
to thank Mr J Bowden for his years of service to the
committee and the show over the years and he will be
sadly missed.
This year we have also joined the world of Facebook, so
please like us and follow what is going on before,
during and after the show. Also it would be nice to
receive your feedback, so feel free to post your
favourite pictures and memories and share our show
with your friends.

KIPGs outstanding achievements
In the last 4 years since KIPG started, we have achieved the following:
Lowered freight costs – from $70 to $40 (who knows what they would be now?)
Built a state of the art receival site which has the least waiting time of any in South Australia, that is able to store separate quantities of any size and quality, for any customer, and operates in the interest of KI growers foremost
Accepts grain with snails and/or gravel which cannot be removed in the harvesting process under KI conditions and then cleans it
Stores grain suitable for end users, not just bulk commodity users
Developed markets that will pay for the safety and traceability of grain from KI
Traders that used to perceive KI as unreliable deliverers now pay a premium as KI is the most reliable deliverer
Worked with farmers to develop new crops that are more suitable to the KI climate and rainfall, such as soft wheat, broad beans and linseed
Developed premium markets for these more suitable grains
Working with leading food producers to maximise the pristine image of KI, such as Simon Bryant, PAL Systems and Skala Bakery
KI farmers are now recognised by customers as producers of premium food, not just commodity producers
KI brand is becoming more and more valuable to these food producers in the price they charge for product and is flowing back to the KI farmers
Has become a model for agricultural marketing in South Australia with great support from PIRSA and the Government
Developed customers around the world that value KI products, even though they yet may not know anything about the rest of Australia
Employs up to 10 Kangaroo Islanders
Uses local carriers exclusively
Has the KI farmers interests at heart, not just grain growers o Feed lots to facilitate premium lamb markets with Woolworths o Re-establishing KI abattoirs o Exporting seed potatoes
Kangaroo Island Pure Grain = pristine, safe and traceable food
