The Local League
Tayside ' s four local clubs , Tayport, St Andrews United, Carnoustie Panmure and Lochee United are all currently in the bottom half of the Super League and all are striving to stay out of the Super League ' s bottom three places which would mean certain relegation for two and a play ofT for another. It would be fair to say that it ' s not been a vintage year so far, for Tayside 's top four. The results of the games versus each other, including today 's, are going to have a crucial bearing on that bottom of the league situation come next May. How the 'mini League looks at the moment

Let's hope for some festive cheer this afternoon , as, so far, the month of December has not been kind
to Tayport . Three successive Super League reversals have prevented the Canniepairt outfit from
climbing the table .
A fortnight ago, Bonnyrigg Rose came to town and inflicted a 4-0 defeat. The margin of victory
seemed harsh on Tayport , but Rose were just more clinical when the chances were presented to
them.
David White opened the scoring , from 'Rigg's first set-piece of a bleak, blustery afternoon. Paul Cur
rie doubled the advantage , courtesy ofa dubious penalty award. Then, on half-time , Barry Donachie
diverted a low cross into his own net and 'Port trailed by three. Other than an earlier , disallowed
goal , the visitors hadn't really created any more chances.
Jn the second period , Tayport themselves became more if a threat. Ross Grant sent the ball over the
bar from a good position and Matty Adam had a shot blocked after a Kris Rollo cross had caused
problems for the Rose 'keeper.
At the other end , Sam Morris made one save during the second half, but was beaten in injury time,
when Ross Archibald netted a diving header.
Last weekend , at Kelty, another goal was conceded from an early set-piece , with David Carr the
scorer of a near post header. Tayport , however , responded well and netted an equaliser midway
through the half, when Matty Adam got in front of his man to connect with Grant Lawson's cross and
beat Allan Fleming with a well-taken volley.
Kelty quickly responded though and Neil McCabe's fine finish restored their lead within minutes. On
37 minutes , central defender Roger Duffin rubbed more salt in the wound when he scored from what
looked like an offside position , making it 3-1 to the hosts .
Tayport probably had the better of the second half , but only managed to pull one goal back. With
around ten minutes to go, 'Port worked a short comer and Grant Lawson delivered for Dale Robert
son to power home a header ; his fourth goal in Tayport colours and third in four games.

THE BAIKER'S BIT
Good aft ern oon to all and may I wish everyone a Happ y Chri stmas.
Lochee United are our visitors this afternoon and they arrive on the back of a good cup
win over Carnoustie, albeit in a penalty shoot out.
Last week saw us lose out 3-2 at Kelty but I felt it was a game which was very much
winnable by us only for our old failings to come back and haunt us, gifting a goal after
only two minutes for the second week in a row. Thi s of course heaps pressure on us
from the word go and also, for the second week, we've gone in at half time with a
mountain to climb. In both games our players have shown with their 2nd half efforts
that if these first half failings were eradicated , then we'd be well into producing victo
ries and gaining pqints . That ' s what we are striving to do in every game we go into.
Today is a new day and today we face Lochee United who like all the sides north of the
Forth Bridge, take up a southerly position in the league table which is not a coincidence
but is probably more down to finance than anything else.
This afternoon is another opportunity for Tayport to show that the victories against
Newtongrange and Bo'n ess United were no flukes and that we are well capable of earn
ing success when we put in a performance . Yes, we go into another game as underdogs,
but I believe if we can eradicate the errors in our game , we are capable of gaining suc
cess this afternoon

SNIFFING AROUND WITH THE SNOUT
Tayport 's next home game is scheduled to be the Scottish Junior Cup 4th round tie v Hill of Beath
on Saturday 18 January . The clubs are both previous winners but have never previously clashed in
the national competition . Hill ofBeath's success came in 1990 with a 1-0 win over Lesmahagow at
Kilmarnock ' s Rugby Park.
What about West Ham United 's James Tomkins? Arrested last week outside the Sugar Hut night
club in Brentwood for being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a policeman. A footballer with lots
of money getting drunk, nothing new in that. But Tomkins hadn 't long recorded a festive message
for the fans warning of the perils of overdoing the drinking at Christmas!
The Tayport FC Christmas Prize Draw was very successful and the club wishes to pass on its sincere thanks to all those who contributed by donating prizes and selling tickets. Prize winners were : £150 M&S Hamper - Suzanne Sneddon; £ 100 M&S Hamper - Ronald Redpath : Luxury Christmas Ham-per - Colin Graham ; Cobbies Inn Voucher - Mo Japp ; Sherry - E.Bryson ; Vodka - David c/o West Port Print ; Beiderbecke ' s Voucher - Alison Henderson ; Brandy- Robert Bryson; Whisky -M.Aitken ; Cosmetics - Maureen Oswald ; Cadbury's Chocolates - Thomas Welsh ; Wine - Gillian Aitken; Wine - Peter Carmichael ; Vodka - Barry Liddle ; Biscuits - Evie Welsh ; Beiderbecke ' s Voucher - Alison Kelly ; Panettone - Anne Baikie ; Vodka - Mike Crichton ; Shortbread - E.Bryson; Gift Set with wine - Chris Graves ; Wine - Joan Bachelor; Beiderbeck ' s Voucher - Chris Graves ; Gift Set with Wine - Brian McCulley ; Cadbury' s Chocola tes - Tina Howie ; Wine - Derek Carr; Cobbies Inn Meal Voucher - Jackie ; Cider - Denise Farnan ; Make-up Set - Chris Graves ; Wine -F.Rippin ; Beiderbecke's Voucher - Ron Nicol ; Whisky - Kevin McGoldrick ; Wine - Alan Bryson ; Cadbury's Chocolates - Brian McCulley; Wine - Dennis Marwick; Tin Shortbread - Roger Bailey; Cosmetics - Jenny Walker; Sherry - Michelle Morris ; Cosmetics - Ron Nicol; Wine - Thomas Welsh; Boots Footcare - Sharon Smith ; Wine - Maureen Oswald ; Craft Kit - Derek Ritchie; Per-fume - Graeme Buchan
A limited number of seats are available on the team bus going to Newtongrange Star next Saturday
( 4 January) and to Linlithgow Rose the following week . Any persons interested should get in touch
with the club secretary .
Half season Season Tickets are available now giving access to complementary half time refresh-ments at all games and entry to all league games. Contact Club Secretary or any committee member.
As we move into January and the perennial problem of match postponements supporters are re-minded that details of any such postponements will be intimated on the club 's Twitter feed @TayportFC and the Newsline 01382552755
The SUPER SIX LOTTERY prize on 12 Jan. is
