A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE BLUE RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL CORPS OF CADETS MARCHING BAND, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2013 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that the members of the Blue Ridge High School marching band Corps of Cadets of Greenville County took top honors at the state competition on Saturday, October 26, 2013; and
Whereas, the Corps of Cadets beat their nearest competitors, second place River Bluff High School from Columbia and third place Greer High School from Greer, to win the band’s eighth state title; and
Whereas, the championship program performed by the Corps of Cadets was entitled “Mechanical Ballet” and featured the music of Philip Glass, Aram Khachaturian, and David Holsinger; and
Whereas, this year’s Corps of Cadets consists of one hundred thirty members who rehearsed a total of two hundred twelve hours beginning the last week of July through the month of October; and
Whereas, in addition to the championship marching band, the Blue Ridge band program includes a concert band, a wind ensemble, a junior varsity/varsity winter guard, a percussion ensemble, a saxophone quartet, a brass quintet, and a woodwind quintet; and
Whereas, in a field that demands discipline, talent, and energy, Director of Bands Brian T. Grant and his skilled marching band

staff capitalized on their own musical ability and training to build a championship marching band and teach these musicians lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off field of competition; and
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate appreciates the pride and recognition that the members of the Blue Ridge High School Corps of Cadets have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Blue Ridge High School Corps of Cadets marching band, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2013 Class AAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Reena Watson and Director of Bands Brian T. Grant.
