All-conference status is awarded in all 19 sports. Headcoaches select all-league squads for all team sports, while inindividual sports, such as cross country and tennis,All-PACaccolades are based upon performances at the conferencechampionships.
The PAC annually awards its men’s and women’sAll SportsTrophies to the schools which perform best across the boardin PAC competition. The Grove City andWashington & Jef-ferson men tied for the top spot in the 2009-10 year, whiletheWestminster women captured the women’s All-SportsTrophy. True to its mission, the PAC has produced numer-ous Academic All-Americans and NCAA Postgrduate Schol-arship winners. Last year, the league named over 650student-athletes to the PACAcademic Honor Roll, which rec-ognizes all participating student-athletes who attain a grade-point average of 3.60 or above.
Founded in 1955, the Presidents’ Athletic Conferencecontinues its mission of promoting intercollegiate athleticsand the pursuit of academic excellence.
Comprised of 10 select private colleges - Bethany Col-lege, Chatham University, Geneva College, Grove City Col-lege, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Thomas MoreCollege,Washington & Jefferson College,Waynesburg Uni-versity, andWestminster College - the PAC remains a uniqueorganization in this day of high pressure intercollegiate ath-letics. With academics at the center of each member’s phi-losophy, the PAC is built on the principle that an athleticprogram is a part of college life, but not an entity in itself.
The PAC expanded to seven members in 2005 with theaddition of Thomas More College, formerly an NCAA Divi-sion III independent. Saint Vincent College, a former NAIAmember, joined the conference as it began provisional mem-bership status in NCAA Division III in 2006-07, and is now afull member of the NCAA. Another NAIA member,GenevaCollege, became the conference’s ninth member and beganleague play as it started Division III provisional membershipin 2007-08. 1SAINTVINCENTATHLETICS
SaintVincent College believes that physical activity is essential for a well-rounded education. With 20 varsity sports, and over a dozen club andintramural sports, SaintVincent gives student-athletes an opportunity tocontinue their athletic careers while receiving a top-notch liberal artseducation at America’s first Benedictine College.
Saint Vincent student-athletes achieve success on the field and in theclassroom. In the 2009-10 school year, over 65 student-athletes re-ceieved post-season honors from the Presidents’ Athletic Conferencefor their performance on the field, in the pool, on the court, and on thecourse. In addition, a total of 330 Saint Vincent student-athletes havebeen named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll over the past four years, which recognizes student-athletes who achieve a grade-point average of3.60 or higher during their season of competition.
The Saint Vincent athletic tradition is a long and rich one, from theschool’s first baseball game in 1867, to the establishment of women’s var-sity athletics in 1984, to the rebirth of Bearcat football in 2007. Nearlyevery program has achieved success and recognition on the national level, while over 100 Saint Vincent student-athletes have been named All-America, both athletically and academically.
Saint Vincent athletes have the privelege of using some of the finest fa-cilities in small-college athletics. The Robert S. Carey Center, built in2003, is truly a premier facility, serving the needs of every athlete at theCollege. The gymnasium, with a seating capacity of 1,300, features regu-lation basketball and volleyball courts, and is also utilized for practice bythe softball, baseball, and lacrosse teams. In addition to the full-sized bas-ketball/volleyball court, there are five additional practice courts, whichare used recreationally by students, and also for intramural competition.
The Carey Center also boasts 15 full-sized locker rooms for year rounduse by varsity athletes, as well as a fitnes center, equipped with the lat-est free weights, weight machines, and cardio equipment. Located justoutside of the fitness center is the Bearcat AthleticTraining Center, whichis fully staffed and has ample room for medical treatment, rehabilitation, and therapy.
Located in the back section of the Carey Center is the Frank and Eliza-beth Resnick Pool. In addition to being put to use by the Bearcat swim-ming teams, the pool is utilized by a number of athletic teams forconditioning workouts, while the entire SaintVincent community is wel-come to use the pool for recreational swimming.
Upon entering campus, the Lady Bearcat softball field, built in 2004, isimmediately visible, as is the school’s brand new artificial turf multi-pur-pose field. Completed in March 2009, the turf field is the new home toBearcat field hockey, soccer, and lacrosse. Adjacent to the softball andturf fields is Chuck Noll Field, an 1,100 seat stadium home to the Bearcatfootball team in the fall and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the summer.
Located in the center of campus is Bearcat Ballfield, home of the SVCbaseball team, while the outdoor tennis courts, completely resurfaced in2007 and used by the Lady Bearcat tennis team, are located on the upperpart of campus, offering a picturesque setting with a view of the entireSaint Vincent campus.
