For Hazel Hyde Neibert, a breast cancer diagnosis was like having her worst fear realized.
“It was very frightening,” she recalls. “I felt out of control.” Fortunately, the oncology team at Sutter Solano
Cancer Center met with her promptly, answered her questions, discussed her options with her and provided
encouragement. “Everyone at Sutter just took care of me—and I felt very safe,” she says.
During the next ten months, Hazel was treated at Sutter Solano Cancer Center in her hometown of Vallejo. She
praises the friendly, compassionate treatment she received from everyone who cared for her—from doctors to
receptionists.
“Every time I spoke with someone, I felt better. I feel I’m cancer free. I’m very happy, getting my energy back
and being back in the moment again.”
Hazel’s is another example of how the professionals at Sutter Health are rising to the challenge of 21st century
health care. Talk to your friends and neighbors. Find out what they already know—when it comes to quality
health care, you can expect a higher level of service from the professionals at Sutter Health.

Enter a dining room or outdoor garden
area where Melissa Teaff Catering has
created an event and you do not just walk
up to a table or onto that grassy knoll – you
walk into a magical experience that stays with
you long after you have returned home from the
party. Melissa Teaff has been one of Napa
Valley’s top caterers for the past 30 years, grow-
ing her business out of a passion for great food
and entertaining. Her gifted touch, incredible
energy and insatiable appetite for creating
“wow” experiences has gained her awards as
well as international attention in some of the
food industry’s most venerable publications.
The famously generous Teaff explains, “My
greatest reward is in making people happy”.
Teaff ’s business may be boutique in size, but she
caters with a largesse that comes from this natu-
rally generous nature.
“Our clients deserve to be treated like they are
in a fine dining atmosphere,” says Teaff, “And we
take care of everything so they can be guests at
their own event”. Melissa Teaff Catering handles
all food and event staff and is partnered with
the valley’s best event specialists to create a
memorable event. Whether you want to create a
Wine Country feel with displays of cascading
grapes, and tables draped in vine cuttings which
curve around serving dishes filled with delec-
table foods; or wish instead to hold an intimate
dinner with layers upon layers of silver utensils
and crystal glasses expanding out from each
place setting, Melissa Teaff Catering will make
sure everything unfolds perfectly. She makes it
her business to continually “outdo herself”.
Unique among caterers, Teaff or one of her
principal managers is at every event they pro-
duce.
Using a state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen in
Napa, the culinary talents of executive chef, Joe
Vitale, and the professional restaurant and hos-
pitality expertise of Guy Barstad and Charlie
Bogue, Melissa Teaff Catering only provides the
best. The freshest of seasonal foods are used as
well. Chef Vitale stresses, “It doesn’t matter if I
am cooking for a small, intimate party or cater-
ing a group of three hundred, people deserve
quality, fresh food”. He and his chefs never tire
of crafting new, innovative meals – their passion
for food drives them to continually create.
It takes a magic hand to create noticeable
splendor above and beyond the natural beauty
of northern California. That is exactly what
Melissa Teaff Catering manages to do. The com-
pany produces weddings, corporate events, real
estate openings, barbeques, brunches, fundrais-
ers, food and wine seminars, team-building
cooking classes—even gourmet boxed lunches
(think corporate events, family reunions, picnic
celebrations). Melissa Teaff Catering is prepared
to produce your next event-when only the best
will do!.
Melissa Teaff Catering can be contacted at

The Magical World of Melissa Teaff Catering
THE PERFECT RED WINECOMPANIONWorking alongside vintners in the
Napa and Sonoma Valleys over the
past 30 years, award-winning caterer
Melissa Teaff was determined to find
the perfect small bite of food that
would pair impeccably with the
area’s world-famous red wines.
After years of testing and tasting,
the perfect companion has been cre-
ated. Melissa Teaff’s Wine Snaps
were showcased at last year’s Napa
Valley Auction, and Teaff has been
thrilled with the overwhelming
response.
“Watching people try my Wine
Snaps makes me incredibly happy,”
says the effervescent Teaff, “Seeing
their eyes open in surprise and
watching a smile spread across their
face. That’s what the Wine Snaps
do.”
The Wine Snaps provide wave
after wave of intriguing flavors in
your mouth—rich brown sugar, zingy
black pepper, a subtle saltiness—
which is only peaked by sips of red
wine.
The success of the Wine Snaps
inspired Teaff to start the Napa
Cookie Company. Wine Snaps can
be purchased retail or wholesale.
The Napa Cookie Company will even
personalize Wine Snaps for wineries
by using the winery’s own wine in
the delectable ingredient list. The
Napa Cookie Company can be con-
tacted at (707) 254-8160 or you can
visit napacookieco.com for further
information.

Asian Delights
Anna Shepley warmly greets dining enthusiasts as they stop by
Annalien’s for the many creative Vietnamese dishes that are a
definite temptation for Asian food lovers. If you are out for a
stroll on Main Street in Napa, make time for experiencing this
chic and very popular dining spot. Upvalley, in St. Helena, din-
ers gather at Go Fish to sample all their favorite choices from
the delicious and entertaining Sushi and Saki Bar. Likewise in
the Sonoma Valley, temptations such as whole prawns marinat-
ed in Thai spices with chili dressing is just one of the delicacies
at Rin’s Thai Restaurant, just a short walk off the Sonoma
Square.
Outdoor Dining
Wine Country is a haven for those who love to dine outside
with most days and evenings’ weather perfect for fresh air and
the ever present ambiance. The brick patio warmed by a fire-
place on a chilly evening or the breezy warm night is just part
of the reason that friends, family and visitors love dining at
Celedon. Chef/owner Greg Cole deserves his top awards for
fine cuisine and invites his customers to dine at his cozy restau-
rant, located near the Napa River and enjoy an array of fantas-
tic entrées under the stars. In St. Helena, Auberge du Soleil
combines their gorgeous resort with sumptuous food and
amazing views. Reserving a table on the terrace is a sought after
experience to enjoy a glass of fine wine while taking in the
majestic vistas of olive groves, vineyards and a Napa Valley sun-
set. Dining outside under the skies of the Sonoma Valley is
delightful when you are a guest of the El Dorado Kitchen on
First Street West in downtown Sonoma. A beautiful stone
courtyard with a private cabana and their famous sprawling fig
tree sets the tone for the delicious and sophisticated cuisine.

Start your day with some of Wine Country’s top spots for fill-
ing that morning appetite with everything from eggs benedict
to country style hash browns and some of the freshest and
most delectable pastries one could imagine. The local favorite

Best Pizza – Eat More Pizza Pie!
The trend towards focusing on gourmet cheeses, choice meats
and fresh herbs instead of how-thick-can-you-go on the crust
has brought a whole new wave of pizza tradition to Napa and
Sonoma. Pizza Azzurro on Main Street in Napa is hand-toss-
ing simple but spot-on flavor pairings for pizza, reminiscent of
Italia itself. Pizzeria Tra Vigne upvalley is cooking up a won-
derful family environment to share along with their authentic
Neopolitan pizzas. With such an authentic flare any one of
these pizzas will lead you to believe you are enjoying a slice at
the Piazza Navona. In the Sonoma Valley at The Red Grape
the decision to order red or white is not only for wines but how
you take your pizza too. The local favorite is offering vibrant
flavors and a new spin on conventional pizza ingredients.
Best Sandwich
There is an art to making a sandwich and anyone who has visit-
ed the local sandwich spots knows just that. Some like wheat
rolls, some prefer Dutch crunch, some even go for a croissant.
In Napa, the only place to find a truly authentic Italian meatball
sandwich or traditional buffalo mozzarella, basil and ripe red
tomato sandwich is Genova Delicatessen. Upvalley, everyone

The first step to a delicious meal, for those of
us that would like to be a master chef but find
ourselves a bit challenged in the kitchen, is
starting with fresh and quality ingredients. If
you are putting on a dinner party and you
want to delight your guest’s senses with wild
salmon and a tart chutney spread, our local
grocery stores are the ace up your sleeve.
Vallerga’s Market in Napa mesmerizes the
eyes and stomachs of their customers with
high-quality, flavorful products. Heading
north in St. Helena, Sunshine Foods has
been serving locals, caterers and wineries with
their vast selection of fine foods and artisan
products in the Napa Valley since 1975.
Whole Foods Market in Sonoma has done
the same with a focus on natural and organic

Sip and Swirl inNapa andSonoma ValleysThe enjoyment of wine in the valleys can have
as much depth and character as an aged vin-
tage. The method for tasting and drinking
wine has brought most wine lovers to a
“heightened” experience. Meeting the wine-
maker to discuss this year’s harvest, taking an
intimate tour of the grounds or exploring
wine through a barrel tasting has opened a
whole new dimension in getting to know your
wine.
Best Wine Bar & Shop
There is nothing better than good wine and
delectable food with hilarious friends. Scratch
that; add in an inviting and vibrant, totally
energetic place. Bounty Hunter Rare Wine &
Provisions serves up tasty bites and delicious
wines which can be enjoyed by the two-ounce
swirl, the glass or the bottle. BarVino Wine
Bar at The Mount View in Calistoga offers the
same sampling elements with tapas plates as
well as the option to purchase by the bottle
“out-the-door” for less than in a restaurant. For
those on leisurely stroll around the Sonoma
Square, stop by Sonoma-Enoteca, a unique
shop that blends wine country home décor
with the ability to sip one of their premium
vintages from twelve distinctive wineries.
Tasting Room
Stop, Swirl, Sniff, Sip and Repeat. Those five
calls to action are key when meandering
around wine country tasting the vintages of
the popular and newly discovered wineries.
Exploring the havens for “tasting” is all about
loving the experience while tasting and savor-
ing the wine. After circling around the hill
and arriving at Artesa Winery, you suddenly
realize that your wine tasting will include a
panoramic view of the Napa Valley, not to
mention an art lover’s dream of fountains and
sculptures that highlights this architecturally
acclaimed winery setting. Located in the
famous Carneros Region the tasting room staff
eagerly offers up a seat at the bar where you
can relax and taste a variety of wine samples.

Try a single taste or samples of all six, while
enjoying the view through the striking prism-
shaped window. Driving up the Silverado Trail is
not only known as a beautiful excursion but the
route to a champagne lover’s gem, Mumm Napa.
Contemplate a tour or simply lingering in the
tasting room to sample some signature sparkling.
It is a hard decision given the winery is nestled in
the vineyards of the Napa Valley and the staff is
more than willing to temp you with your choice
of Blanc de Blanc’s, Blanc de Noir or Brut.
Perhaps all options would be worth the time and
certainly the taste! Taster’s cannot resist a jaunt to
the Sonoma Valley to visit Benziger Family
Winery where they proudly welcome their visi-
tors with the history about their family team and
their passion for Sonoma Mountain winegrow-
ing.” Well known for their Biodynamic farm
practices that are inspirational in the world of
grape growing, winemaking and land preserva-
tion. This winery has so much to see, so much to
do, so much to learn from and of course, to taste.
How often could wine lover’s (seasoned or new-
bies), try a unique tour on the Benziger Massey
375 tractor that pulls the tram of visitors for a
close-up of the vineyards, gardens and wildlife
sanctuaries, while learning about the specific
farm practices that are used to grow their grapes.
Return to the tasting room for the culmination of
your visit and try their various tasteful wines. We
are sure you’ll join their wine club and keep com-
ing back for more!
Best Boutique Winery
Small, intimate and what insiders call “hidden
gems” are treasures that wine enthusiasts are
always eager to discover. Small producers with
limited quantities to sell are masters at creating
varietals using the grapes exclusively grown in
Napa and Sonoma Valley’s. One such superstar is
Ceja Vineyards the family winery of premium
Napa and Sonoma wines. Owned by the Ceja
family, its President Amelia Ceja, is the first
Mexican-American woman to hold this position
in a wine production company in the history of
new world wines. Three generations of grape
growing and producing fine wine is definitely a
sought after experience that wine lover’s relish.
For those boutique winery seekers that enjoy a bit
of times past, St. Clement Vineyards is housed
in a Gothic Victorian built by Fritz Rosenbaum as
a winery in 1878. They also have a modern win-
ery built into their hillside. Those in the know
enjoy all the amenities of this famous winery
which include indulging in some world-class
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and
Sauvignon Blanc - all from the Napa Valley vine-
yards. Sonoma County with its rich and lush
vineyards has locals and valley visitors agreeing
that Arrowood Winery and their classic vari-
etals are favorite choices for boutique wine con-
noisseurs. Wine club members have the unique
option of joining their First In Line Club that
ships new wines to these members from a special
allocation. Being part of the club is the only way
to have access to this special wine – sign us up!
Best Local Winemaker
Outstanding texture, full body, terrific depth and
richness are just some of the descriptives that
Jon Priest, the remarkable winemaker of the
Etude Wine brand receives on their wines. The
dedication to “mastering the craft of winegrow-
ing” is the focus of Jon, Tony Soter (founder),
Franci Ashton, (viticulturist) the team that makes
it happen every day. Along with Jon these masters
of winemaking bring 50 years of experience to
their quest for “superior wines that are grown,
not made”. Pinot lover’s often have the chance to
sit with the winemakers during their intimate
seminars while tasting some of the limited pro-
duction Pinot Noirs at Etude. Up-valley at St.
Clement Vineyard, Winemaker Danielle Cyrot,
oversees grapes and winemaking for various
appellations from ten amazing vineyards. Her
background which includes centuries of family
history in the wine business of France has been
an inspiration to Danielle’s distinctive successes
as a young but very talented winemaker at St.
Clement Vineyards. Production of small quanti-
ties of splendid wine has been an on-going tradi-
tion at St. Clement and that tradition carries for-
ward with the creative and youthful dimension
that Danielle brings to their unique wines. Family
history is the background of Joel Peterson, the
famous and very popular winemaker at
Ravenswood. Joel’s father, Walter started the San
Francisco Wine Sampling Club, which studied
fine wines from all over the world and Joel
learned the business along side his father.
Sometimes described as Ravenswood’s “ Zen-
Master of Zin”, he says that for most wine enthu-
siasts, “Ravenswood is synonymous with big,
rich, full-bodied and intense wine!” BEST OF

SERVICESMaking our Lives Easier – What
could be better?
They touch our lives daily and provide the
Wine Country community with valued
goods and services that keep the local com-
merce moving. Service businesses are all
about the day to day details that provide
immeasurable value and enhance our quality
of life. These services are the strength of our
community and have provided enormous
dedication over many years.
Banks
They say hello and know you by name… the
tellers and officers are eager to assist you
with opening an account, finding that best
new product or loan as well as supporting all
the community events and fundraisers.
Personal Service is certainly the slogan of
these local and popular financial institutions.
Napa Community Bank and Sonoma
Valley Bank strive to meet the needs of
their customers with up-close and individual
attention on a daily basis. They define “out-
standing service” in local banking. Umpqua
Bank and their staff are passionate when
they say “Welcome to the World’s Greatest
Bank,” They know this expression is consis-
tent with their commitment to all customers
and their loyal contributions to the area at
large.
Best Auto Repair
Having our cars well oiled and ready for the
road is a life necessity for most of us. A driv-
ing mishap or your car breaking down is
never on the top of our “how I want to
spend my day” lists. However, the “Best Of”
winners can certainly ease the pain of repair-
ing our cars and keeping them maintained to
perfection! Leave it to the experts to make
BEST OF 2009 59
your vehicle as good as new. We love our cars, probably more
than we would like to admit and only want to leave them with
people we trust. The folks at Byron’s Auto Body in Napa
have made repairing dings and dents their passion. Picking up
your car without any reminders of the scratched paint or
bended bumper is a great feeling. Similarly, Canon Creek
Service in St. Helena and Pacific Rim Auto Repair in
Sonoma offers this same level of relief. When we return for our
cars, they are practically new again!
Best Auto Dealer
Locals agree that the best place to look for a new car is right
here with our own Wine Country dealers. It is not surprising
that the valley’s residents overwhelming prefer these home-
town picks in Napa and Sonoma for their solid reputations,
great selections, competitive pricing and their outstanding per-
sonal service. When it comes to the “vehicle” that gets us to
our jobs on time and brings the family home safely we want
peace of mind. Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet-Toyota has focused
on innovative and practical solutions to buying, selling and the
upkeep on cars to start changing the way the community views
and counts on their business. EPPS Chevrolet-Pontiac and
Bonanza Ford-Lincoln-Mercury has also outfitted them-
selves in the most modern tools to get your vehicle diagnosed
accurately and efficiently to save their customers as much time
as possible. It is always a pleasure to find that new car so close
to home.
Best Real Estate Agent/Company
Two valleys with exceptional real estate, right in the heart of
the world’s most renowned wine country with vineyard vistas
for miles around…that is what these “Best Of” winners work
with everyday in their professional lives. Most people dream of
moving to wine country, retiring to their home set amongst
the vineyards to sip wine or some cold iced tea while enjoying
the beautiful weather. Rolling hills of grape vines and picture
perfect valleys are the backdrop to this lush and bountiful area
we call home. Whether your dream house is reminiscent of an
Italian villa or the perfect wine country vacation home,
Coldwell Banker Brokers of the Valley in Napa has just the
place you’ve been looking for. Morgan Lane Real Estate
makes the transition from seller to buyer and back again as
smooth and enjoyable as possible. Their expertise and under-
standing of market trends clearly satisfies their clients. In
Sonoma, the Frank Howard Allen Realtors proudly draws
on their 100-year traditions to always focus on the highest
level of service and client satisfaction. Finding your dream
house or selling one could not be easier if you are working
with these leading real estate pro’s! BEST OF
