2009 Annual Report
2009 Annual Report
Alcohol and drug addiction is a family disease. Addiction negatively impacts the stability of the home, the family’s unity, mental and physical health as well as social network. There is typically more divorce, domestic violence, child abuse, depression, anxiety, and general medical problems in families dealing with addiction. The facts of addiction and its destructive force on a family serve as the foundation for the work of the Addictions Care Center of Albany, Inc. It is the source of the ACCA vision statement, “healing the hearts of everyone touched by addiction.” Throughout the ACCA continuum of care, the needs of the family are foremost. We start with the youngest of those affected; children from ages 5 – 18. Through prevention programming, ACCA and school staff teach youth the proactive skills and the knowledge to avoid drug and alcohol abuse and other risky behaviors. Family education programming extends these prevention concepts into the community. Youth and family counseling is offered through our extensive outpatient treatment program. Family therapy is an integral component in all ACCA treatment modalities and is critical to the sustained recovery of both the individual client and his/her family. Soon to open is Vista House, ACCA’s new 22-bed Women and Children’s Transitional Living Residence where women will prepare for the next phase of their lives in recovery in a safe, healthy environment while keeping their families intact. Our excellent staff receives continuing education in evidence based practices enabling them to deliver the highest level of care. Each of these components build the foundation for meeting the fundamentally important goal of ACCA: to provide the gift of sustained recovery to the individuals and families we serve throughout Albany County and the Capital Region.

Our Services
Crisis Center
The Crisis Center admits over 3,800 annually and serves as the main entry point into substance abuse
treatment services for the Capital Region. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, this safe, supportive
environment has 44 crisis and extended care beds for men and women 18 years old and up. This NYS
OASAS-Certified facility is staffed with nurses, medical attendants and credentialed counselors.
Outpatient Programs
The ACCA’s Outpatient Programs serve
approximately 120 people each day. Clients are
provided with a combination of treatment options so
that each individual’s needs are met. Group therapy,
individual counseling, journal work, recreational
therapy, and relapse prevention presentations
engage each person actively in treatment and help
clients realize that enduring recovery is possible.
Day Rehabilitation
Clients who require a more intensive therapeutic community attend the Day Rehabilitation Program three
to five days per week for four hours each day. Each person works with his/her counselor to develop an
individualized treatment plan by combining individual and group counseling, addiction education, co-
dependency counseling, parenting education, relapse prevention, recreational therapy, life skills training
and GED and vocation rehabilitation. In addition, a psychiatrist and nurse are on-site to help with on-
going medical issues.
Medically Supervised
The cornerstone of this ACCA program is maintaining abstinence and recovery from chemical dependence
and abuse. Clients work to attain a better quality of life through individual and group counseling. DMV
referrals are also available to those in need.
Youth and Family
Offering counseling for adolescents and their families affected by alcohol and substance abuse.

them with the skills they need to experience lasting recovery.

Our Future
The Evening Program
ACCA is pleased to announce the opening
of our Evening Program. Starting in
August 2010, this outpatient treatment
program is designed to meet the needs of
individuals with daytime jobs, students
attending school and parents who are
unable to access treatment during the day.
With several progressive levels of
treatment, the Evening Program provides
individuals with a combination of options
to meet their specific needs. Individual
sessions and discussion groups actively engage clients in treatment. ACCA’s main campus at 90
McCarty Avenue will be home to the Evening Program which has been specifically tailored to
those who require a supportive network in a convenient Albany location.
Vista House In December 2009, ACCA purchased additional property on McCarty Avenue to build its
planned Women & Children’s Campus. Construction will soon be underway for the unique and
innovative housing project, Vista House! This transitional residence will house up to six single
women and five mothers with up to 11 children, ages birth to 10. Mothers will be given the
