Extreme Close up

Extreme zoom into the subject showing details usually eyes. Used to show emotions.

Close up

Zoom’s into the face showing details on the characters face. Also used to show emotions within the face.

Medium shot

Zoom from head to waist to establish the character.

Long shot

Zoomed out to show the subject in the environment, to show his surrounding etc.

Extreme long shot

Extreme long shot is extremely zoomed out usually used to show the plot/setting/landscape of the film.

TrackUsed to follow the character/subject within a certain scene.

Pan

A horizontal camera movement in which the camera moves left and right about a central axis; focusing on the subject or action.

Tilt

When the camera moves up and down, usually used to show the landscape from bottom to the top etc.

Zoom

When the camera closes up (zoom’s) into an subject.

Cut

Cut is used to separate two scenes from each other within a film. Eg finish one scene/shot and go onto another.

Pace

The speed of the clips and transitions in a movie. The speed of everything within the movie.

Performance

Performance is the acting on the scene. It can be also used to present a play, concert etc.

DiegeticSound which are visible on the screen such as voices of characters and sounds made by objects.

Non Diegetic

Sound that is not visible on the screen such as an narrator, soundtrack and special effects (sound effects)

Mise-en-Scene

How the scenery is set out and everything within the stage.
