JesusJesus’’ S Suupremacy in Everything premacy in Everything

John 3:22-30John 3:22-30

John 3:22-30

22 After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean

countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized.

23 Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there

was plenty of water, and people were coming and being baptized.

24 (This was before John was put in prison.) 25 An argument

developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew over

the matter of ceremonial washing. 26 They came to John and said to

him, “Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the

Jordan—the one you testified about—look, he is baptizing, and

everyone is going to him.”

27 To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given

them from heaven. 28 You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I

am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ 29 The bride

belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the

bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he

hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now

complete. 30 He must become greater; I must become less.”

It is not not what you say, but how you say makes the difference.

It is not what you see, but how you see makes the difference.

TRY THIS!!!

It is not what you see but how you see that makes the

difference

Two Groups looking at Jesus

1.The Disciples of John

2.John the Baptist

The Disciples of John

• They are disciples, not ordinary people

• They like discussions

• They are status conscious

What is their View of Jesus?

• He is our Rival/Competitor

Their Words:

1.Never mentioned Jesus’ name

2.Putting John and Jesus against each other

What is John’s View of Jesus?

1. God Ordained (ver 27.)

2. John is the forerunner—lower position (ver. 28)

3. Jesus is more important (ver. 29)

4. Jesus must increase, but I must decrease (ver. 30)

Jesus Must Increase

1. It is not an advice

2. It is not a possibility

3. Compelling Divine Necessity

One of the difficult tasks

Sometimes Opposite:

1.Own desires

2.Own ambitions

3.Own plans

4.Own emotions

Word of AdvicePsalm 115:1

Not to us, O Lord not to us

But to Your name give glory

II Cor 10:5

We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
